This historic clock tower was constructed in 1886 and named after Sir William L. Merewether, Commissioner of Sindh (1867 to 1877). It has a height of 102 ft. and was designed in neo-Gothic style. Now simply referred to as "Tower", it is located in the business hub at the junction of I.I. Chundrigar and Bunder roads, amid the melee of crowded pedestrians, buses and vehicular traffic. The best time to see this architectural masterpiece is on Sunday when there is minimal traffic - although impressive, it is disconcerting to see how poorly the tower is being maintained.

Built on the junction of Bunder (Port) Road and Chundrigar Road, is a major landmark of Karachi. This used to be the last point in the city from where all traffic turned back. The Bunder Road is a one way traffic road and all public transport except for a few turn around this Tower. It was built as a clock tower facing all sides for the convenience of market goers, port operators, and general public. It is named after Mr. Merewether, the then Commissioner of Karachi. It is one of the many clock towers that were constructed in Karachi during the British era. It is a small structure built with local sandstone that has a unique and good architecture. it has a small park with few seats. It is a walk around place where memorable photos can be taken. Merewether Tower is a major reference point for many bazaars and wholesale markets of Karachi. Most importers have their main offices and godowns in this area. The Pakistan Railways goods godown is also located opposite the Tower and all goods transported upcountry have their origin here. Different lanes specialise in specific goods thereby making wholesale competitive merchandise available to retailers.There is no parking in the area due to heavy rush. Best time to visit is early morning before 10 AM to find parking and then one can roam around the markets that usually open after this hour.
