Constructed in the 1970's, the Habib Bank Plaza continues to be one of the most prominent landmarks of the business centre, I.I. Chundrigar Road, in Karachi.

Originally, the head office of Habib Bank Ltd, the structure was unique due to its circular shape and prominence as one of the tallest buildings in Asia during its early years.

Due to its height, the Plaza was often used for moon sightings by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

When we were growing, Habib Bank Plaza was like the Empire State building of Karachi. It has lost its monumental and historic value since then. The building itself is ok. Not much to look at, from the inside however, it has been redecorated and renovated into a classy office building.

Nothing to waste your time on, unless your looking for a job of course in Habib Bank ;)

Till recently was the tallest building of Karachi and was the biggest landmark. Inaugurated in 1970, it housed the Head office of HBL Bank till it moved out recently. Located in the centre of the Business and Financial District it is opposite the Karachi City Railway Station which is the terminus of rail service in Pakistan. The Karachi Cotton Exchange is the immediate neighbour besides the head offices of Standard Chartered Bank and Bank Al Habib. HBL Plaza is a 22 story building and has a circular structure that is unique on the Karachi skyline. Tourist do visit the place and there is a viewing lobby on the roof top that is used for moon sightings. It is closed for general public but visits can be arranged on request.

Habib Bank Plaza isn't a tourist attraction at all, instead is the head office of the Bank. Why would anyone go there? Yes you can see it from outside if you are walking by... but no need to waste your time here.

It is a landmark of Karachi but a rather ugly one. So dont waste your time gawking at it. It used to be the highest building in Pakistan, now taken up by MCB towers. Now, Bahria Icon will take its place !

Habib Bank Plaza (now HBL Plaza) located on I. I. Chundrigar Road in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, is the head office of Habib Bank Ltd. It was the tallest building in Asia while still under construction between 1963-68. It was also the tallest building in South Asia until its completion in 1972. It remained the tallest building in Pakistan for four decades until the 29 floor and 116m tall MCB Tower was built.
It was constructed to mark the 25th anniversary of Habib Bank Ltd.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has regularly used the building over the years to call the meeting for moon sighting.
