Recently , I happened to visit the Lahore Zoo after a number of years . Sadly , I found that the Lahore Zoo I once knew was no more . The animals are being neglected and not looked after properly , resulting in them looking miserable . A lot of animals were not present anymore and most animals were being kept alone without other animal companions.

The animal enclosures stank like they had not been cleaned for a while and the zoo animals did not look properly fed either.

It is suggested that the zoo be closed if the management is unable to take proper care of the animals .

If you are a local with kids then go to this Zoo and have fun with the kids.
If you are a tourist in Pakistan, then visiting the Zoo will be a time waste cause it is just a normal simple Zoo. Nothing very special.

I feel Pakistan in general need to be more educated when it comes to the poor treatment of animals. I love animals and to witness seeing animals being abused in a way that is not only unacceptable but illegal in other countries i found to be shocking. Saw the elephant being repeatedly hit with a stick on it's legs in order to sit up and put it's trunk out to the public to collect money. This made me tearful and i had to leave. In my personal experience this type of cruelty should be banned and this place closed down. Have no desire to visit here again and wanted to free all the animals. Seem much worse out and about of Pakistan street like the donkeys, camels and monkeys all mistreated from chickens etc. So much education is needed

A trip to the Lahore zoo is fun and informative outing for the family. Kids enjoy the trip as there are many animals and birds to see. They have improved the zoo a lot however few enclosures like the reptiles section needs be improved.

A first of its kind from the 1800s, Lahore Zoo has been kept up to the international standards. The kids still enjoy the elephant ride as I did as a child and the number of species is countless from land, air, to water animals and the hill is the perfect picnic place to relax and enjoy a snack!

“An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.” –Martin Buber

Arrived at the zoo around noon. It was drizzling with mild winds.

The cleanliness, the good number of animals the zoo houses, such as but not limited to different types of tigers, lions, giraffes, monkeys, zebras, birds, snakes, bears, a guerrilla, a rhino and a cheetah are to be appreciated. Moreover, a beautiful lake houses ducks and different types of fish.

The Lahore zoo does not just house animals but also very unique trees and plants. The ‘Love Trees’ for example, that have survived many wars and conflicts. History says they’ve witnessed civilizations change.

Overall, the zoo is highly recommended for a visit. On the other hand, the ‘snake house’ needs a massive refurbishment, addition of snake residents and a modern style environment with higher beam lights.

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” –Anatole France

The entry fees is quite reasonable. The fee is 40 PKR for adults and 20 PKR for children. In addition, packages can be availed for student groups. Special children and senior citizens above 60 years go free.

Have a nice time with the animals!
