Hiked up to the main waterfall with a beautiful pool; cold, but not too cold. Some people, but not too crowded. Beautiful. To get there, go past a handful of huts, and it will fork to the left at a ‘Y’ in the trail. Hike back down to the previous ‘Y’ in the trail to the Fountainhead trail sign which goes to the left if you’re walking up the trail. There are two entrances to the pools below. The first is a beautifully steep staircase/steps with a curved bamboo entrance. If you go a little further up that trail, the 2nd steps take you to the upper pool where the small Dee Dote waterfall is. Only saw one other tourist while there. Two families live/work at these ponds. The husband at the 2nd (upper) waterfall hut was not friendly, but he sold food and drinks. Hopefully he was just having a bad day. He and his wife had two very young kids and a 2 month old baby (February 8, 2019). If you don’t order something, it’s a 1000 kyats per person to sit at his low plastic tables under his bamboo hut seating areas. Wish we could have stayed here longer. The lower pool by the parking area is primarily for the locals, some of whom bathe there. That water is not very pretty and is rather stagnant.

I hired a private driver from Anisakan to Mandalay and we stopped off at Dee Dote. If I had to do it again, I'd just go from Mandalay to Dee Dote in one day with a hired car. Driver waited while I hiked and floated in the turquoise pools. But MAKE SURE YOU HIKE ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP. There are little falls and pools on the ups as you wind around the not-so-well-marked trails. Local folks will try to point you in the right direction. Once you are at the top, there is a hut with food an beer, and a bamboo bridge over the turquoise pools, and huts to chill out in. Grab a tube for $1 USD and a beer for about $1 USD and have at it. Great place to relax. I actually liked it better than the falls near Luang Prabang, Laos because there were FAR less tourists, and a prettier setting. And there is a cool grotto at the back you can chill out in.

It was very crowded, full of drunk locals, some other travellers and very a lot of trash around. If it would not be crowde it would be much nicer for sure.

Driving out of Mandalay, past 7 Mile Beach - turn off to Dee Dote soon after this developing amusement area (bizarre! Keeping an eye on it!) - leave tarmac and arrive at a small villagey place, the start of the trail up to the top waterhole. It's so near, it's worth going on, the right hand fork, to a clearing way up in the silence of the mountain forests, where three paya spill golden reflections on the green. Then back down - and the left fork takes you to a steep descent to the waterhole - an extraordinary blue pool when you first sight it, and the blue seems to increase when you're there. Huge pleasure swimming there, and the family who run a small restaurant there are a pleasure to meet.

...at the waterfall. No other tourist, just a few locals. We had a donut rubberring a d were swimming with beer in the water. The locals played some music. The litter was ok...that's Myanmar, it's sad but normal. No entry and many pools for privacy. You can climb the rocks and jump of the waterfall.
