The citadel itself - base + 2 floors - as well as the garden are excellent to appreciate the skilled results of the people who constructed this beautiful and impressive fortified castle. It’s said that part of the construction material comes from the light tower, named one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world, that was destructed by an earthquake in the 7th century.
As a cherry on the cake, the views on the city and, especially, the sea are extremely beautiful.

The main attraction of Alexandria . This is called Qaitbay Citadel . There is no lighthouse now. It is a middle age fortress built on the bank of Mediterranean sea. Very well maintained establishment indeed. Entry fee was 60 Egyptian Pound for adult and 30 for students and locals (2019).

I have now seen the one intact wonder (pyramids) and the 3 remnants (Ephesus, mausoleum n British Museum, and this), so my wonders tour is complete, so I was very excited to be here. Having said that, the only thing left is some of the stone of the base. There should be much more explanation and signage to highlight the former lighthouse.

The lighthouse has not existed for many centuries. There is only one that we on the extreme left, nicknamed "the lighthouse of Alexandria", the worst president in history who, like this one, fell forever and disappeared to SP. The place is wonderful, it has the Fortress built in its place by the Arabs, but currently it is a museum.

This is the location of the famous lighthouse, but all that remains of it are some stones used to build the citadel. See reviews of Fort Qaitbey on the Citadel. So if yuo're looking for the famous lighthouse, forget it. But the location is great for views of the city and sea.

We visited the place and I could imagine having seen documentaries the great wonder of the world it was as explained by Ibn Batuta and other travelers of old times. But place could have been kept better and we were discouraged to go the castle as I understand it is empty. They can create a magic with technology/films/ 3D experiences. Egypt has many lost opportunities. Wish they they can make up.

The lighthouse isn’t actually there any longer, however there is a fort where it once stood. It’s actually a very beautiful spot in spite of it being so crowded.

While now a restored fort, I was hoping for more information of the lighthouse. Whether by fame in lore or estimation of current historians/scientist would have been interesting to assemble with the fort restoration.

Awesome Citadel. This place is beautiful and has amazing views of the library and city. Lots of neat history. Lots of stairs that are uneven, so may be hard for some to climb inside. This is a must see and on top of my list for places to see. Vendors outside can be a bit pushy.
