The Saint Andrew's Cave is a place where the Apostle lived in Dobruja. There is a church inside the cave and a bigger one outside (where are exposed some Saint's holy relics). The place is very spiritual and isolated and the road to get there is pitoresque. To get there you should enter Ion Corvin village and then you can see a monument of Saint Andrew, follow the road to the monastery.

This spectacular place is not very far from the city of Constanta.
The church itself is very beautiful on the outside, but on the inside it's very rich in architecture. The inside is gorgeous. I would recommend bringing your children here because you can actually see the little pieces of what was left from the Saint's body. So, it makes it a fun and cool experience for the children. They could also learn about this special place in a fun way. Then, the cave is amazing. It is so beautiful on the inside.
I really recommend visiting this place and I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I did.

St. Andrew is the one who brought Christianity to this land. I had the opportunity to visit the cave where he lived on a scorching day of July. Upon entering the cave, the silence and low temperature inside felt like a balm. I took my time to look at the icons on the walls, to caress the rocks that have been touched, probably, so many times by St. Andrew himself, to breathe in the sanctity of the place. It is a place of great wonder, of humilty and inner peace.

Somewhere nereby you can find the spring that, it is said, was created by St. Andrew when he struck a dry rock with his staff. A church-like structure is built over this spring. Its water is said to be holy, and it's so cold that you feel refreshed after taking only a sip or two.

Do drop by, you'll find that it is worth your time :-)

My review has nothing to do with faith and religious beliefs; these are private to each one of us. It is my opinion about the Saint Andrew's complex: the two churches and the Cave Monastery. The cave is taking you back in time and although illuminated and decorated, you can imagine how it used to be for somebody to live &pray there ages ago. What I don't like it is the kitsch, the plastic flowers, the big church next door, although a little one already existed, the vivid colours and all the bling - bling. Instead of investing large amounts of money in more and bigger churches, I would have appreciated a decent toilet facility, instead of the shameful one available now, taking into consideration the large number of visitors and pilgrims this place attracts. I don't want to be disrespectful but sometimes more simple is more beautiful.

The monastery itself isn't extremely spectacular apart from the fact that it's located in a cave. It is said that the remains of St. Andrew himself are inside and that they have healing powers for whoever prays there. I'm not that big of a believer, but what I do believe in is the beauty of the nature surrounding this attraction. The forest is not too dense and allows you to go for a walk in it, but it also is dense enough to give you the feeling you could get lost if you are not careful. There is a general feeling of tranquility in the area. You quickly notice the relaxing silence as soon as you get there and you get the feeling that there is something special about this place, almost magical.

A must see for history lovers and worshippers, it’s over 1 hour away from Constanta (I guess without any easily reachable public transportation for foreign visitors).
The compound is made up of the cave itself, two churches and a convent, one small building with a spring inside, a souvenir shop and a small animal farm. A large parking outside and a fair access road.
No entry fee. The souvenir shop is well stocked; most items are in Romanian, I’ve seen 1-2 in English. The water from the holy spring is not for drinking.

the cave church is actually the first church on Romanian territory; from Ion Corvin village, there is a 3-4 km secondary road to the site we are looking for

Saint Andrew, the first apprentice of Jesus, came here to spread the his word , and established the cave as head office, for the entire period he promote the Christianity on that land
from here he went to North, in nowadays Ukraine, and then to South, in Patras, Greece, where he died, crucified
during the communist regime, the church has been used as shelter for sheep, but this is not a surprise

I't quite far from Constanta, about 1-1.5 hours of driving, but it's definitely a place to go to and visit if you are religious and or spiritual. It has an old and long story behind it. A quiet place and very beautiful surroundings.
Say your prayer, light up a candle and maybe your wish will come true!

Departing from Constanta to Ion Corvin, after about 75 km, we leave the main road, follow the signs and reach the cave of St. Andrew. This Dobrogeana Monastery is located less than 2 kilometers from the "Mihai Eminescu Cisme" and at about 4 kilometers from Constanta - Ostrov Road. The monastery is built around a cave where the folk tradition claims that the Saint Apostle Andrew lived and Christianized. The air is pure, the silence is full and you can say that you feel closer to God.
P.S. The address of the monastery is not in Constanta, Ion Corvin Street, but it is 75 km away. distance to the city of Constanta, near Ion Corvin commune. Please correct on the site.
