The old center of Brasov, one of the southernmost cities in the Transilvania region, is just simply beautiful and charming. Be sure to differentiate between Centrul Nou (New Center) and Centrul Veche (Old Center), as the new center is not specifically interesting or appealing. The new center is the area you walk in when you leave the train station and walk southward.
The old center is typically clean, decorated with old and charming, colorful houses that are mostly in a quite good condition. The squares are also very nice and provide spacey terraces where one can very well drink a beer or coffee in the sun - but of course, as Brasov is situated next to mountains, it also rains quite often. I actually like the entire inner city of Brasov - it breathes that specific atmosphere that one feels as welcoming, charming and relaxing. Highly recommended for a 2-3 days stay.

Brașov Historical Center is the old town surrounding the Council Square (Piața Sfatului). Brașov was an important local and international trading center in medieval times; Piața Sfatului has been holding weekly markets since 1364. The former Council House (Casa Sfatului; built in 1420) is in the middle of the square and is now the Brașov County Museum of History. The square is a good starting point for exploring the old town. A great fire destroyed most of the former walled city in 1689; it took several decades to rebuild. Piața Sfatului is surrounded by 18th-19th century houses, pedestrian-only Republicii street, Black Church, Orthodox Church, Casa Mureșenilor museum, Museum of Urban Civilization, Hirscher House, indoor and outdoor terraces, shops and restaurants. The square and surrounding streets are accessible at all times with no entry fee. Landmarks are beautifully lit at night.

Braşov is a very interesting city. Don‘t expect to be so restaurated like westeuropean cities. But you find very good Restaurants and Brasov is a very good base for exploring the surroundings like Poiana, Bran with Draculas Castle, Magura, Bear Sanctuary with 100 Bears, Sinaia, Predeal, Busteni.

The center of Brasov is simply stunning and so picturesque. Take the free walking tour that leaves at 3:00 daily, or download a DIY walking guide for Brasov so you can learn some of the history that exists throughout as you wander. Lots of great restaurants and shops behind colorful facades. I visited in January when there was snow on the ground which added a certain charm, but I imagine that a summer visit in the warmth and sunshine would be equally as divine!

Our Romanian friends took us here on our trip to Romania. They love this town and often come here for the weekend. And I understand why. It’s full of charm, architecture is absolutely beautiful and being small, it has a cozy feel to it. We visited on a cloudy day but it was brightened by the colorfulness and cuteness of the place. We entered a couple of stores and bought some original, one of a kind handmade jewelry, had a dinner there and the stroll was very lovely. Too bad the black church was closed on that day.

In fact, the only beautiful part is Piata Sfatului/Sfatului Square. Here all the buildings are beautifully renovated and the area looks good. There would also be Republicii Street, but there are already many buildings in poor condition. If you go down the side streets the number of unattended buildings increases greatly. The area is overcrowded with restaurants, bars and cafes. Otherwise, almost nothing more interesting to do or see, except the Black Church, and a small museum (The Museum of the Urban Community of Brasov, as appears it here, on the website). It's nice to take a walk alongside the old city walls and its towers and bastions but you can't visit anyone of them.

We stayed in The Old Town Brasov, in an apartment called 'Inside Old Town'. Great location just across from the historical town square which is lovely. So pleased we stayed here rather than Bucharest. We hired a car at the airport just outside of Bucharest it took 3hrs to drive to Brasov. Parking was good as well 25lei for 25hrs (£5). It took us 30mins to get to Brans Castle, which was great. The 2hrs to get to Peles Castle, sheer volume of traffic, the 1hr to get back to Brasov. We took the hire car back to the airport Otopeni, the got an Uber to Bucharest for under £10 each way. Then returned to the airport.

The Historical Center is the main square in the town of Brasov. The area is a big draw for tourists and locals alike. The lovely square is located near many restaurants, cafes, and shops. The nearby Black Church is also another local attraction. The area is picked up and clean. On nice day, it’s idyllic for enjoying a leisurely stroll and people watch. If you do have a question, no doubt you’ll run into a friendly local that will be able to point you in the right direction.

Very cute square with a clocktower, church and a whole bunch of restaurants and shops! Very clean and organized cute little town. The surrounding forest and mountain views are spectacular. The 'free city' wifi doesn't work through. :(

I visited Brasov for the 2nd time in November 2019, after a gap of many years... It's just as pretty in the old town as I remember, but these days of course a lot more tourists. Easy to walk around and see most of the important sites in half a day. More effort required to visit the castles.
