It is a pretty easy walk up to the tower from the city center. There are steps to the building. The tower itself was closed, but there is a very nice view over the city of Brasov. It is absolutely worth a visit, even though it was closed when I was there. It will take about 20 minutes with walking up and down and enjoying the view. It is a good combination with the black tower.

The Turnul Alb or White Tower is a watchtower built between 1460 and 1494 and was in earlier times a part of the city fortification. You can reach it via a stone staircase from it has a beautiful view of the city. The tower itself was closed during our besich and not visible from the inside.

Great view of the town although not too different from the view of the Black Tower. If you are planning a trip up, the steps in front of it are a killer! Its best to take a gentle stroll up to the black tower and then from halfway up the tarmac slope, take the mud path across the side of the hill to this one and then work your way down the other side. It wasn't open when we went and didn't look like it had been open for some time either. The platform at the front is a good enough substitute for a view of the old town.

A semi-circular tower - the White Tower- built also outside the fortification of the city of Brasov, connected with a mobile bridge - that 1 history today - only a staircase is going up from the Graft Bastion.
It is built also in the 15th century like the Black Tower - with the same purpose - stand alone fortification outside the city walls, as a watchtower to spot enemy movements if needed - originally it was towering 20 m above the city walls - so from its murder holes, balconies and ramparts the defenders could create some serious damage during sieges and if everything went south ... through the mobile bridge connecting the tower to the Graft Bastion ... that bridge is gone a long time ago.
The views are nice and somewhat similar to those from the Black Tower..
What is unfortunate - this 1 is also closed so you can't climb the tower , it is stained with meaningless graffiti - still don't get it why you need to damage a historical monument by spraying it with graffiti ....well whatever ....
You can visit the White Tower and the Black Tower in the - almost - the same time - is just 7-8 minutes walk between the 2 ....

I really enjoyed my visit to the White Tower, which was part of the mighty fortification system built around the old city of Brasov by the Saxons to defend it from invading Mongols and Turks who repeatedly attacked and destroyed the old settlements of Bartholoma and Corona.

The old city of Brasov, formerly called Kronstadt by the Saxon Settlers, is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe.

Most of the defence system was built between 1400 – 1650, when the city walls were erected together with massive defence towers and gates.

Some parts of the defence walls were 40ft high, 7ft thick and two miles long - and are still standing today.

The White Tower was built in1494 on top of a rock and stands between
18-20 metres tall depending on which area of ground that part of the tower was built on. Its straight side, closing the semi-circle, faces the city.

Inside the White Tower, there are five wooden levels which would have been used as musketeer galleries.

The top of the tower is bastion shaped with battlements and the offsets with their slotted windows, are still intact on the tower's side-walls. These would have been used for dropping showers of stone on the attacking enemy.

The entrance to the tower was so high that a ladder was needed to enter and this was another obstacle used against would-be intruders.

The tower suffered damage when flames fanned by winds during the fire of 1689 quickly spread to the fortification. It was subsequently restored in 1723.

According to historical documents reference to the city's defence system,
the tin and coppersmiths were responsible for the protection of the tower.

The tower adopted its name from the whitewash that coated its walls.

Yes, I so much enjoyed my visit to the tower. I know there are lots of very steep steps leading to it however, if nothing else, it's worth making the effort solely for the amazing views over the city which are breathtaking!

But a word of warning folks, please don't attempt climbing the steps if you're not fit and agile, or get short of breath. It really won't be worth it.

The steps are very steep and it's a long way up - especially if you're struggling.

My advice? Grab a bus to Pioana Brasov or take the cable car to Tampa to see other spectacular views over the city. But of course the choice is yours.

In front of the tower there is a staging platform which will afford you an even greater vantage point for photo opportunities. Oh, and inside the tower there are a number of exhibits on display which were used in the defence of the city.

Happy holidays!

if you are walking, you must climb some stairs to reach it, if you are driving it's very easy to find it as it does have a asphalt road from the behind, the best view of the town and taking pictures as it's not so high as from the mountains so you can get a nice background view.. ;)

Spend some time to enjoy a panorama on old city Brașov. Unfortunately was closed in Spring. Plan it together with Black Tower.

White tower is a part of the old city defensive system and is pretty easy to spot from the city, while basking in the sun.

This "White Tower" affords amazing views of Brașov. It's best to come in late afternoon or at sunrise. If you choose the latter like I did, it will be eerily quiet (because the interior is open only Tues-Sun at 10:00-17:00) but still perfectly safe so don't worry if bringing a DSLR camera. Your main concern will be tackling some very steep steps to reach the tower!
