Mission accomplished. Marius our experienced guide picked us up from our guesthouse very early in morning, to head out to the mountain forests. We chose several different lookout points, some of which were up some hard steep slopes over the three day tour. We saw roe and red deer, fox and wild boar. Simona was good enough to lend me a bear spray, which I feel is definitely needed on these hikes. On the third day afternoon hike was the hardest, we saw dozens of wolf, bear and Lynx footprints along a muddy path as we headed up to the high lookout point. After sitting there in the cold wind for over an hour watching the ravens and buzzards, there it was, a large male Lynx walking through a clearing below us. Although about 400 yards away, it was quite a good sighting through our binoculars and cameras. I definitely want to do this again.

Romania is a beautiful country with mountains, castles, monasteries and………bears.
We booked 3 trips and it was exciting all 3 times. In total we saw 50 bears!
Simona and Tiberiu have passion for bears and they bring you deep in the woods and the result is a lot of bears. When you send a mail Simona will answer you very quickly , so that is also a plus!

I with 2 friends spent 2 days in Brasov. On the first day Simona took us to a nearby National park for a long 17Km hike on the mountains and through a spectacular gorge. She is a fantastic guide and gave us lots of of information about the local history and nature. The hike and all the arrangement were perfectly organised.
The next day we were pick up at 4:30 AM (!!) on the dot by Alexander, a colleague of hers, that took us to a spot to observe red deer and brown bears. He also was a wealth of information about local wild life and a pleasure to be with.

I highly recommend Absolute Carpathian and plan to use their services for more hikes in the future as I plan to return. Romania is fun of beautiful nature and I like to discover more of it

Me and my son had a great time that evening (02.09.2022) when joining the folks from Absolute Carpathian. The time we spent in the hut to watch the bears was magic. Our guide Calin introduced the situation of bears in Romania very well and was open to all kinds of questions. Watching the bears was a very special and honouring experience. Thank you very much / multumesc

We had a very good experience with absolute nature. We went on the evening bear watching tour. First night after 2,5 hours no bears! But because this was so exceptional they let us go again next night with no additional fee. We saw 6 different bears and a lot of foxes. Very impressive! Very happy with how they handled that, thanks guys!

A wonderful excursion. We saw a lot of bears, I can't say how many. Bears were appearing all the time. Many bears with their young. Time flew by. Simona explained many things to us and answered all of our questions. It was really worth it, absolutely recommended.

We just finished the 4 Day bearwatching tour.

Great experience! We saw 13 different bears in the field and from the hides. Very professional guides who know a lot and share their knowledge.. Great host in the guesthouse. You also have time to do other activities. We visited Bran Castle (Dracula), Brasov old city, Peles Castle.

I came for a 3 days trip with my daughter with the target of seeing the lynx (mating in that period) and any other wild animal we could encounter.
I found the whole process of booking with Simona very difficult with slow time of response to email and often a lack of customer service orientation.
Simona picked us up in Brasov and brought us to the hotel and again I did not appreciate the interaction with her: it might be a different type of humor and some might be cultural "lost in translation" but still for the money we were charged I expected a different experience.
The value for money applies as well to the hotel which was horrible: nobody was looking for any amenity but we were missing the basic things such a igiene and tidiness.
The guide was committed but spoke essentially no English which again is not reasonable given the very high price paid.
To top it all, we did not see any animals: we have had quite a few similar naturalistic multi-days excursions and therefore we understand that the wilderness can not be organized and orchestrated and hence we would have never complained for just not seeing the lynx (anyhow difficult to spot by definition) but in 3 days and many many hours of excursion we did not see one single animal, literally! Now if this is the standard or even just common this should not be offered as a tour and if this is an exception then Simona should have offered a partial refund or to have us back at a discount in a future date.
Again, not an issue not seeing the lynx but we did not see a single animal, not even a mouse in 3 days.

Dear Mr. de Sanctis Thank you for your review, although I find it unfair. Indeed you did not see any animals in the wild, but you forgot to mention the fact that it was freezing and you had to leave from the field each time because your daughter could not resist anymore. Of course animals wait until the weather improves a bit before moving, as they all need to conserve energy! You left too early from the field from our point of view, but as you were our guests - it was your choice to forfeit your chances. The hotel was chosen based on your requests, availability and reviews, and so far you are the only one who complained about it... The one you call "guide" is in fact a wildlife researcher with a high rate of success (especially on lynx). As normally there is not much talking while doing wildlife watching and taking into consideration your short time available for this trip - we thought we were doing you a favor by sending you in the field with him... As for the "slow time of response" - the longest delay was 3 days when I had to make calculations based on finding availability to match your requests, all the rest of my responses were within 24h. So I guess your main dissatisfaction is that I did not offer a partial refund or discount for future visit ...

We did the 3 hour bear hide experience with Simona and it was just amazing! As we were visiting in early April, we'd been warned it might be too early in the year. And when Simona picked us up from our hotel in Brasov at 5pm (times vary during the year depending on sunset times), she mentioned again that nothing was guaranteed.

We were driven for about an hour and arrived to meet the ranger and another party of five, walked quietly for about five minutes up to the hide and prepared to wait in silence. We thought it might be a while, I'd brought a book just in case. Then within 15 minutes, our first bear appeared, ate a little and went. And 10 minutes later, another appeared in the distance, circled the clearing and dropped by for a few minutes. We were delighted. Simona told us about these bears, their ages and their lives.

Then suddenly a mother and two cubs appeared from under the hide, then a larger male, our original two and then a huge 14 year old (tho Simona told us there were actually much bigger bears around) and they all stayed in the clearing for a long time. Eventually we saw eight bears, which was amazing considering we'd been delighted with our first one.

The time flew by and it was fascinating to watch them interacting cautiously, as Simona and the ranger told us what was going on. Finally as night fell, and with two bears still snacking outside, we headed back to the car, sticking close by the armed ranger. Simona drove us back to our hotel and we arrived about 9:45.

During the journey, Simona answered all of our questions about the bears, other wildlife, conservation in Romania, as well as telling us about the history and geography of the areas we were travelling through. It is a family company, run with her husband, and it was nice to meet (and be briefed about camera usage in confident English) by her two little boys who came with us to the hide, and were impressively quiet for the whole two hours we were there.

Practicalities:

- You need to be able to get up and down a one storey ladder to get into the hide, and walk along a slightly uneven pathway from the car
- you can use a camera as long as you can turn off the flash and red light
- the experience involves sitting pretty still and very quietly inside the hide for two hours
- take layers with you, it will get chilly
- the last toilet opportunity is to find a bush near the car park before walking up to the hide, it's not possible to leave the hide during the two hours
