Lovely Gothic church in the historic easy to see area. I loved the grounds here and as you approach the front of the church, a really nice wood carved cross worth a great photo to remember it by.

This was not my destination, and I don’t think it’s destination-worthy, but it is easy enough to stop by on your way into old town and definitely worth stopping by. Don’t miss the adjacent cemetery which is lovely and very well maintained.

Perhaps lesser known (and less easy to find) than the bigger Black Church, Sf. Nicolae Church is certainly worth finding. It’s a lovely building, and the wider complex is also very worthwhile for a walk - it’s also home to the first school in Braşov (I believe), an attraction in its own right.

July 2018: It was a nice little church, but sadly because of a ceremony we couldn't see the inside. A men told us, that it just started and while took at least 30 minutes. We didn't wait, because we had a schedule.

St. Nicholas is more than a church. It is an Orthodox Cathedral as well as a Museum Complex as it also represents the First Romanian School, taught in Romanian in times where schooling was regarded as a luxury and subjects were mostly presented in French, German or Latin.
St. Nicholas is an amazingly beautiful monument in itself and while in Brasov, I highly recommend stopping for a visit.

The church has a very interesting architecture but the Gothic style also has consequences inside - it is a very dark church. In addition, it is among the few churches in Romania where photography is not allowed inside. Why? The church of Saint Nicholas began to be built of stone by the people of Brasov, in 1495, with the help of the rulers of Wallachia. Originally built in the Gothic style, the church underwent various transformations in the Baroque style and in the eighteenth century were added a series of paraclises and a porch and was renovated in the interwar period. Very interesting and full of symbols are considered many of the paintings in this church, some of them even prohibited from public access - paintings unique in the world that are said to contain messages about the Apocalypse, frescoes whose symbols have not been deciphered until today.

We tried visiting the place in June but two ladies(custodians) had the building cordoned off 15 feet from the entrance so one can just have a far glimpse of the magnificent structure.
Being too busy talking among themselves they didn't bother about our presence or to move the barren plastic tables that were sitting in the middle of the church.I bet they were not some kind of precious artifacts that needed to be cordoned off.
On the other hand we visited the First Romanian school located in the church courtyard and a very knowledgeable gentleman gave us a very interesting and instructive tour.We also saw the monument dedicated to Nicolae Titulescu that was a great diplomat and the president of League of Nations in the 1930's .

Probably the prettiest of all the churches we visited while we were in Brasov. We went on a Sunday so there was a service on. You were able to here the service as it was played on loud speakers outside the church

The church originally was built in the Gothic style, but later redecorated with Baroque architectural elements. It dominates historic city district of Schei.
Location of the church is just about 1.1 km west from the main city square, the Council Square. The church dates back to 1292 and belongs to the Romanian Orthodox Church, Metropolitanate of Transylvania.
Next to the church, there is the First Romanian School, which was established in 1583.
Worth a visit.

Small, elevated, fairytale style Orthodox church, well maintained and accessed from the old square via an archway. The grounds, in contrast, are slightly decaying with only the sloped garden in front of the church seeming to have had any attention. First School of Romania lies in the grounds adjacent to the church.
