Council Square (a.k.a. Piața Sfatului) is in the heart of old town. Brașov was an important local and international trading center in medieval times; Piața Sfatului has been holding weekly markets since 1364. The former Council House (Casa Sfatului; built in 1420) is in the middle of the square and is now the Brașov County Museum of History. The square is a good starting point for exploring the old town. A great fire destroyed most of the former walled city in 1689; it took several decades to rebuild. Piața Sfatului is surrounded by 18th-19th century houses, historic sights, museums, indoor and outdoor terraces, shops and restaurants. The square and surrounding streets are accessible at all times with no entry fee. Landmarks are beautifully lit at night.

This is the heart of the city. With so many nearby restaurants and cafes, this is a vibrant area with locals and tourists. You can have a seat and watch people carrying bags from their shopping. Just around the corner from Old Town is the historic Black Church.

The most beautiful public place in Brasov. A large square surrounded only by old buildings, all of them nicely rehabilitated. In the middle, an old building with nice architecture-The City Hall.At 100m far you can find Biserica Neagra/The Black Church, one of the biggest churches in Romania. A lot of restaurants(costly, all of them) arround the square.

The square with its church and the houses and shops surrounding it breath an authentic atmosphere. Beautiful spot where you can stroll around in a very relaxed way and turn into all the nice streets that surround it.
Definately one of the nicest spots in Braşov, and it has quite a couple of beautiful spots!

This is the main square in the old town of Brasov and is a very pretty location popular with tourists. Worth visiting in the night as well as the day. Plenty of interesting historical buildings on the square itself and in the vicinity.

Brasov was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 and was first mentioned as "Corona". The City of Brasov was attested in documents in 1235. One of the most important city in Transylvania surrounded on three sides by mountains. Later on the town was known as Brasco, Brasso, Kronstadt, Brassovia Citadel. For a short period of time, communists have changed its' name into Stalin :-)

Brasov is the biggest and most developed Transylvanian town. It is beautiful, warm, multinational, with all the necessary features and facilities of a big town, and full of lovely people! The city is full of historic buildings. One of them is the Black Church, which owes its name soot formed on the occasion of the great fire in 1689th It is apparently the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe.

Council Square is in the middle of Brasov and is worth a stroll at anytime during the day or night. It is ringed with shops, local crafts, restaurants and bars with interesting side streets going off of it. There are many old and beautiful buildings with incredible architecture. Fountain right in the middle and places where you can sit and enjoy. It is beautiful. Every winter there is a Christmas Market and a big Christmas tree, making this square a very romantic one.
Nearby there are amazing excursio spots - Poiana Brasov ski center, Rasnov, the medieval village on the top of the hill, and at last, but not least, Bran, the home of Dracula!
