Nice old houses and old small churches. Looks like a separate village on this huge town. Take care of the uneven pavings . Follow the way to the top to have a full panoramic view over the city

Very interesting old town full of cobbled streets and old buildings, many of which have been sympathetically renovated. The local authorities seem to have a good plan in place to maintain the character. It's ideal for museum buffs who will be delighted with what's on offer.
Luckily not too busy during our visit.

The area reached from the Maritsa River on the North Side is busier and a bit more interesting than the Southside. Also parking is easier from the Northside, both metered and pay-lots. Bring good shoes and a walking stick. The cobblestones are treacherous.
Many art museums of varying quality. Many National Revival buildings to visit if interested.
The "Street of Crafts" is mostly tourist junk, however Old Town Plovdiv remains unspoiled compared to the hideous commercialization of Nessebur, on the Black Sea Coast.
You can easily spend 2 full days wandering the Old Town. Most business have someone who is multi-lingual, and in general "welcoming."

We only visited Bulgaria as a means to get to the UK during covid times and I'm glad we did.
4 days in the outskirts of Sofia were interesting, although we had a boutique apartment the outskirts of the capital are less than desirable.
We travelled to plovdiv for the rest of our stay. We travelled by private taxi which I highly recommend and same price as the train. Our driver was happy to tell us all about the area. We booked him again to drive us back to Sofia Airport.

Plovdiv we stayed in luxery city center apartments through booking.com which were fantastic, self catering 2 balconies to soak up the city sun and relax.
So much to do and see in plovdiv and most walking distance.
The people we found to be happy and chatty, glad to look after tourists.

Plovis a bustling but relaxing place where restaurants spill out into the pedestrian streets, people sit, drink, eat and watch the world go by.

When a person walks around the old city of Plovdiv, it is as if he is entering another era and other epochs, and he understands how people have lived in a completely different way from our modern technological world of which we are. At the same time, if you stroll through the center of Plovdiv you will see a combination of old with new construction and many valuable, ancient, archeological finds and buildings scattered all over the center, and filled with recreation areas, parks, gardens, fountains, monuments, art ateliers. , theater, cinema and more. And at least I mentioned that it is very different from that ancient world and the people in it from this modern, innovative technological and robotic world in which we live, you can go see the development of all new technologies in the digital sphere and robotics, construction and more. .. exhibited at the Plovdiv Fair in the moment of 23.09 ÷ 28.09 I really liked the walk between the technologies.

An amazing place to stroll, equally magical during the day and evening.
Here's a little history: The Old Plovdiv Architectural and Historical Reserve (also known as the Old Town) is located on three of the hills of Plovdiv - Nebet Tepe, Dzhambaz Tepe and Taksim Tepe, also known as the Three Hills, and covers an area of 35 km² It has been formed as a result of continuous life in the city for centuries (from prehistory to the present day) and combines the spirit and architecture of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Bulgarian Revival. The Old Town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Plovdiv. Plovdiv is one of the the oldest cities in Europe - older than Rome and Athens.

The town is very well preserved with the typical architecture of the past centuries. It is full with small workshop and galleries. There few good places to eat as well.

The roman buildings are still quite well preserved and you can get a tour guide to tell you about the history.

Great place!

On our trip to Sofia, we book a day trip by coach to Plovdiv on our second day which took us 2 hours. Need to get up early but manage to sleep on the way because there’s not much to see on the motorway. Love the old town. There’s so much to see. Should have stay there for a day or two. Strongly recommend Nebet Tepe - short hike uphills and the view is amazing. definitely recommend the pub restaurant on the way down. The waiter is excellent and the food is amazing and reasonably priced with a very generous portion.

Excellent place to visit. Old Town offers a unique opportunity to see and feel history spanning over many centuries (not to say millennials) and cultures. We spent two days walking around, but it was not nearly enough - it may take several trips in different seasons to fully appreciate its beauty. We truly enjoyed the Old Town. Even our teen son was impressed.

Traditional part of town, restored very nicely, with Roman remains everywhere. Visited a couple of the traditional houses and theatre. All in all a nice way of spending the day (will only need a full day when you’re really going door to door for everything that’s open to tourists). Not exactly on par with the lush history of other ancient ruins (Rome, Athens, Baalbek) but still worth it nonetheless.
