The Roman engineering is still much admired in modern civilization. Their ability to make use of the geographical landscape and the aestheticism in the design are awe inspiring. The scenery is stunning.

Probably the best preserved Roman amphitheater in the region, in a stunning setting overlooking the city and its three hills. A must.

All pictures and guidebooks of Plovdiv recommend the Amphitheater. I was not so amazed. There are definitely better things to do in Plovdiv.

A good place to visit in old Plovdiv. It is very hot in summer and there is no shade. There are very steep stairs.

It's best to go at 9am when no one else is there and when it's just openings. You'll hear the bells ringing and ties replay special

My experience has a bit of prejudice. I had the once in a lifetime (for me) priveledge to see the Opera, Carmen, performed in this theatre. I've seen a few Roman theatres previously in Turkey. The theatre is pretty well preserved. Being a second century theatre it is remarkable that this theatre can today still be used for great productions.

The theatre is very well preserved especially the seating area. Entrance was 5 lv each which was ok. The view from the top seat of the theatre is really incredible.

I think this was 5 lev.. would not be worth more since you can see it without paying to go in but admission cost was worth it.
