The Kriva Cuprija or the Crooked Bridge, is another hump-backed arch bridge closely resembling the more famous Stari Most, just smaller. The frontage and vault are made of irregular shaped rubble incorporated into the horizontal layers all along the vault. The arch is almost a half circle, with the vertical sides integrating into the abutment.

We stayed at the Hotel Kriva Cuprija, which is right next to this bridge (hence the name), so we walked over it by necessity a few times as we walked around near our hotel. In comparison to the Stari Most bridge just a short walk away, the Crooked Bridge isn't overly exciting. That being said, it still has an interesting history, so it's worth it to stop and read the information about it, and take a short stroll over it. This bridge was used as a "test" of sorts to see if this style of arch would withstand heavy loads on a bigger version of it. It had several modifications done on it over its almost 500 year history, and was destroyed in a flood in 2000, then rebuilt. It's not worth visiting the town just to see this bridge, but if you're in town already, its worth a quick stop for a short history lesson.

Beside the famous Stari Most (Old Bridge) there is another ancient bridge in Mostar: the Kriva Cuprija (or the Crooked Bridge). Kriva cuprija is a stone one-arch bridge similar to the Stari Most but much more smaller.
The floods of December 2000 destroyed this bridge. A reconstruction of Crooked Bridge has been initiated by UNESCO and financed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The project was completed in the year 2001.
Crooked Bridge is located in quiet part of Mostar, there are not many people on it so cross it is more convenient than cross the Old Bridge.

The Crooked Bridge is a very cute miniature of the Stari Most, which was built before the Old Bridge, around 1558. The bridge ends up passing often unnoticed by tourists, but it delivers a beautiful landscape of the restaurants and hills around the city. The medieval atmosphere around it is amazing.

We spent about 4 hours strolling in the small market streets and dined by the river near the bridge. While at the dinner table a diver dove into the river from the bridge. It was spectacular. The floors and steps on the bridge are very slippery due to heavy foot traffic turning the pavers into a shiny and slippery surface. Towards the nightfall we felt like we were stepping into a history book. The vibe, the people and lighting wouldn't want to let you go.

Although the so-called Crooked Bridge is not as famous as its ''old friend'' and Mostar's main symbol - the Old Bridge - this one is also wort a visit, especiall because it's basically just a few minutes of walk from the Old Bridge and is situated within the premises of Mostar's Old Town. It is surrounded by many good restaurants who have a beautiful view over this small bridge. It's worth a visit!

Arriving towards the famous Stari Most, you cross another bridge. It is smaller but older and we were told it was a smaller-scale “experiment” of the arch structure that makes the Mostar Bridge iconic. It is worth stopping for a moment at least on the viewpoint that overlooks it and from which you can appreciate it.

Back in this beautiful city after too long and am staying for a few days. The Crooked Bridge. Was first mentioned in literature in the mid 16th century and had stood until the war of the mid 1990s. It was reconstructed in its current style in 2002, respecting the environment and changes made to it over time.

This bridge looks very similar to the Old Bridge and was built before it (supposedly as an experiment/practice before the big one). It was damaged during the war and eventually collapsed, so the one now is a reconstruction, just like the Old Bridge. It was still neat to see, and we had fun comparing it to its larger sibling. We crossed it on our way down to the beach under the Old Bridge, so stopped to take a photo and admire it.

Great smaller version of main bridge, when exploring the old town area make your way down to the river for closer views.
While walking down towards the river you will cross this bridge, you get a good early view of the bridge as you walk down the street and that’s a great location to get a landscape picture of bridge and surrounding area.
Very close to main bridge and worth seeing.
