- Andy GIpswich, United Kingdom89 contributionsWandering and remember…. Beautiful now and a must seeSuperb place to visit with such beauty. Rebuilt since the war and its worth visiting the museum to remember and reflect. The old town is amazing and easy to navigate but note that walking in flip flops is not advised as bridge is rather steep and slabs slippery too. Plenty of nice places to eat and gaze over the blue waters of the river below. Half a day well spent.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 12, 2023

There is a vibe here unlike any other, a bit like going back in time somehow. Many great restaurants and souvenir shops in this area. Be aware, the bridge is quite slippery and steep.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 28, 2023
- CatharineBOttawa, Canada1,639 contributionsReally Worth the effortWe drove to Mostar from Split and spent the evening. We visited in late May, before the hordes of tourists arrived, but when the weather was ideal for touring. While scars are still visible today and some tensions remain, the Old City has undergone extensive reparations, and an international effort saw the rebuilding of Stari Most, which officially reopened on 23 July 2004. Mostar has a lot going for it, from its charming Old City and unbeatable bridge views to its ancient mosques and eclectic mix of people. It is more budget-friendly than neighboring Croatia, and offered us the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the worst tragedy in the Europe since WWII. We had a private guided tour and had some frank, open discussions with our guide. Last but not least, the region’s cuisine and locally produced wine & beer is nothing short of exceptional. We had an authentic experience and took numerous, amazing pictures. Although it can get busy, the evenings were mesmerizing.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 31, 2023
- John WShrewsbury, United Kingdom416 contributionsHistoric, photographic but slippery!A group visit to this ancient part of the town in the shoulder season, before the packed tourist invasions during the hot summer months. Nevertheless there were crowds there admiring the bridge and the old town. The bridge is quite small and steep. Surface cobblestones and built in stone ridges every few feet across the width (to enable carts and animals to cross & 'brake') make for difficult and slippery progress as all the surface has been polished by countless shoes o ver the years. Fortunately the sun was shining and it was dry underfoot; even so the handrails were useful. The bridge rises to around 18 m from the cold green river waters and young men continue to jump from the jumping platform...aided by contributions from spectators The nearby lanes of the Old Town are packed with souvenir shops, cafes and eateries: all very touristy but atmospheric and friendly. Really glad we went but it must be hellishly crowded on Summer. Apparently it becomes SO crowded that it is almost impossible to cross over this iconic landmark.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 26, 2024
- johnwoolmer79Church Stretton, United Kingdom32 contributionsSLIPPERY...especially in the rain...but FUNReally good experience to see this famous & historical old bridge in Mostar Old Town. Plenty of souvenire shops, cafes and bars nearby and good walking shoes with grippy soles will help counter the slippery surface of the bridge worm smooth over the years. The bridge is surprisingly small and steep, rising to some 18 metres above the very cold, clear and fast flowing river. Intrepid young men will jump from the platform if the crowds are generous. Have patience and be prepared to queue. You are guaranteed to be intrigued by the atmophere, ambience and history of this iconic bridge.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 26, 2024
- MateuszKJaworzno, Poland255 contributionsGreat place to walkEvery time I'm on the Makarska Riviera in Croatia, I try to go to Mostar for a day. In the morning, Turkish coffee and Baklava with ice cream are a must. Then a walk around the Old Town, a little shopping at nearby markets and finally lunch in one of a dozen or even several dozen restaurants. And the food in Bosnia and Herzegovina is truly amazing.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 2, 2024

If these sorts of 'old towns' are new to you then you may like this. It's a very typical old town replete with vendor after vendor selling the same crap, ice cream shops, cafe's, restaurants trying to wrangle you in and what is likely fake sterling jewelry.
If you've not experienced this before then fill your boots - you'll enjoy the experience. My wife and I have seen this dog and pony show more times than I care to count and got through and out the other side as fast as we could.
If you're going here during covid then I can tell you that there are zero covid precautions taken here. We almost left as we fly home in 5 days and the last thing that we need to do is have a positive PCR test even if we're both vaccinated.

I find Mostar to be slightly underrated. The scenery is beautiful and the Old Bridge adds a lovely finishing touch. The waters are nearly as turquoise as the lakes in Plitvice, Croatia. Old Town itself is quite quaint - lots of usual souvenir peddling and restaurants could be quite pricey. Nevertheless they are quite flexible as most accept Euros, though some only notes.

We had a car rental for three days in Dubrovnik. One day we went to Kotor, another to Mostar, and another to Ston . We both liked Mostar the best. When you go make sure and do a loop - go south a little ways out of Dubrovnik and head up M20 which winds up and over hilly regions which reminded us of Napa valley. This is a future great wine region. Hardly any traffic with quite a few roadside farm stands. Honestly, this part of the drive was scenic and fun. After two hours or so, you get to Mostar. Grab a spot on the road and get a 2 hour parking permit - that’s all you’ll need. Wander along the banks of the river through the alleys. Make sure you go down to the river under the bridge. There is a fantastic artist who paints Mostar scenes on rocks. This guy is talented - perfect souvenir! When it’s time to leave, take the well traveled route back to Neumann, with a stop at Kravice Falls. Perfect day!

Beautiful old Bosnian town. Very small old downtown. You can clime to the top of Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque for overall view, walk on the famous Old bridge. We saw few local youth jumping from the bridge. In addition to a known tourist attraction, I would recommend to visit a cemetery in the middle of the town: very old mosque, few old graves, and endless rows of the fresh white monuments over graves of the 19-20 years old died during the war 1993-1995. Like many military cemeteries that brings TV news to life. Very sad.

Visited in April on a guided tour which was incredibly long and not what we expected. Mostar is beautiful however full of people and gift shops which spoil it really. The best part by far was going on the 10 Euro boat ride on the river that the locals run as it meant we could see parts of the river and falls from places you would otherwise miss.

My husband and I are very pleased we decided to come to Mostar. We took two tours which covered what we needed to know about the city old and present.
We ate two meals in the old town and visited both day and night.

Beautiful area to walk around day or night! Plenty of shops and places to eat. We found our souvenir patch and a pair of earrings. There was sit down restaurants where the staff wore traditional outfits. We had delicious coffee at the tower and gelato!

This is a very atmospheric and cobbled part of Mostar best seen early in the morning or late afternoon when most of the tourists have gone. It is said to have a very distinctive Turkish or Ottoman feel to it. The shops and houses have attractive limestone shingled roofs.
