Zitomislic, some ten or twelve kilometres south of Mostar, is a well-known beauty spot and a place where people from town come for a rest.

The monastery (orthodox) was very badly damaged and has been restored, but it doesn't show. The interior is wonderfully cool and peaceful, but one feels the special spirit of the place best from the green lawns outside.

Zitomislic is near Blagaj, and on the road back to Mostar from Pocitelj. I saw all of them on a round trip lasting, I think. about four or five hours, including time exploring Pocitelj, etc.

This is a beautiful 16th century orthodox monastery in Herzegovina by the road between Mostar & Čapljina. The area around the church, surrounded by nature, is kind of a park with very tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. The monk we met there was really kind. I recommend this monastery complex to all travelers who need a place to rest and enjoy some birds' singing far from city noise, since there are few tourists who visit the place so it's never crowded.

This beautiful monastery is situated in a very quite and peaceful place even though it's along the main regional road. Among lovely nature, Žitomislić monastery gives you a sense of balance and peace while you're in its gravitation. Even though it was completely renovated, because it was previously destroyed during the war in Bosnia, it doesn't lose it's charm. If you're near this monastery, you should not have any doubts about visiting this place. I strongly recommend it.

The Croatian did a "very good job" and they destroyed the entire place. It was renewed but it is not impressive and important as it used to be.

We made just a quick stop to see this beautiful monastery- could easily spend more time in museum, but worth the quick peek inside the lovingly refurbished church. Such colourful paintings!

The floor of the church is original and survived bombing but the rest has been authentically restored. See if the priest will let you in. 4 artists spent 2 years painting it. Magnificent

Žitomislić Ortodox Monastery near Čapljina is a nice and interesting place for a short visit. It was destroyed during the last war (but also during the WW II), so it is worth to see how they reconstructed it. It is also interesting to see the icons and the difference between Orthodox and catholic ( or protestant) churches. Also the the responsible monah was nice, he showed us the church and answered our questions.
