In this church I got married with my wife and so my opinion could be affected by this, but I really think that the New Church in Kragujevac reflects the orthodox spirit. The church is very well manteinded, clean and smelly of incense. All the walls are painted with bright colors and during some Mass it's possible to listen a great chorus. The church is in the main center of the city and so you can't skip to visit it if you are in Kragujevac.

In July, I returned to the Church of the Dormition in Kragujevac. The iconography there is now substantially complete by Belgrade iconographer Miloje Milinkovic and that was the purpose of the visit, to see his latest works.

Miloje is an iconographer with works in Serbia, Greece, Switzerland and the U.S. His work is some of the best of modern Serbo-Byzantine iconography one can find. The Church of the Dormition is no exception. He spent several years carefully crafting each of the icons written on most every surface of this large church. I say "written" because sacred icons are not painted since they are part of the scripture of the Orthodox faith.

His latest work did not disappoint. It is in a small room, perhaps 3x3 meters and perhaps 8 meters high. You will have to inquire to see it as it is in the baptistry. How he was able to work in this small space…

Anyway, the entire church is filled from the floor to the ceiling with sacred icons all the way to the top of the dome featuring the Pantocrator of Christ looming over all. It is a sacred place so please both dress and act accordingly. If you are there in the evening, around 5 or so, you will be able to witness the evening vesper service which we did. The service was a gathering of monks and they sang through the roughly half-hour worship.

The Dormition Church is a spiritual place both all the senses. Considering the history of all the turmoil and suffering in the area during WWII, it is a peaceful place to visit.

New churches in the Principality of Serbia had been built for a long time under
the influence of Vojvodina , in baroque style, expressively in catholic style. A change
was made by the building the cathedral in Kragujevac.
The designer was architect Andreja Andrejevic. A member offspring of
wellknown family from Kragujevac. He was a student of Kragujevac high school and
studied architecture in Petrograd.
He designed a new church in Kragujevac under the influence of the Russian
school of building orthodox churches. It was an interpretation of the Byzantine churches
and at the same time Serbian medieval influence. A high, five domed building was
erected where “the stock market” once stood.
The church of the Dormition.
It became a pattern. The turnover in style was done. Since then Serbian churches
have been built in spirit of Byzantine style.

This is a spectacular church in the woods with wonderful mosaics - it is well worth a visit. The mausoleum underneath is also quite beautiful.

This is one of the landmarks of the city of Kragujevac. It's near by First Grammar School and National museum. Also near by pedestrian zone. It's the most beautiful to visit it in the early morning while the church choir is singing - beautiful.

Church of The Dormition of the Virgin in Kragujevac was the first church constructed in Byzantine-Romanesque style in liberated Serbia, which she, among other things, gives a special place in the architecture of the second half of the last century. It is worth seeing interior, especially frescoes
