This well and pump/water fountain were once one of the main water supplies for the walled city. It doesn't seem to work any longer, but it's situated in a small little square that is a nice stopping point during a walk through the Old Town. The metal work on it are intricate, and we enjoyed spending a few minutes admiring it before we moved on with our walk.

The Karampana well is tucked away in the tiny Karampana Sq which is just to the left of the Maritime Museum in Kotor. It was built in the 17th C and was the town's only source of drinking up until the 20th C. It is where townsfolk use to gather and swap stories. The ironwork surrounding it is an elaborately twisted baroque affair, and the spout has what looks like a dragons head on it.

Karampana fountain is located in Old Town of Kotor, within the walls. It is close to the Maritime Museum and the small square in the area has the same name. I found it just by chance. I understood that there are many legends about the fountain, but it is for sure that for a long period of time was the only source of drinking water in town. The work in the wrought iron of the artist is a nice piece of art.

Music is great there. There are live bands and DJ sets. Drinks are relatively well. But management and service is terrible. We were trying to book a table through the Instagram profile as was suggested by the waiter but we didn’t have a response. After that we came to the bar earlier to get a table and after ordering cocktails we found out that our table is already booked by someone else. There was no notice about that when we just came.

I looked for ages for this well, and eventually found it by chance rucked away in a quiet little side street as the best bits often tend to be. At first look this doesn't look much and it would be tempting to dismiss this as just another relic, but in a city like this where access to fresh water came at a premium this was a life saver, providing the inhabitants and no doubt their feline companions with that life enhancing resource.

we stumbled upon it by strolling around the old town and found it to be rather impressive. The Karampana fountain in the past was the only source of fresh water in the town. In present form the fountain derives from the Baroque Epoch, from the end of the seventeenth or the beginning of the eighteenth century. The forged rail is the work of an unknown master blacksmith. An old drinking fountain, now non-functional. Beautifully made and of unusual size, being much larger than an ordinary drinking fountain. But I don't think it's a not-to-be-missed landmark. We found it by luck.

I would have missed this had I not been with a guide. Worth a stop. Near the cafe with the umbrella's. Make sure you read up and now what you are looking for.
