We admired and stopped inside (entrance is free) this church during our stroll through the Old City of Kotor. It is a Serbian Orthodox church, and thus the interior had similarities to but its own unique twists on the Catholic churches we've more commonly seen during visits to Europe. We only stayed about 5 minutes, but that was long enough to admire the interior and the beautiful altar pieces there.

Saint Nicholas Church is the most important orthodox religious site in Kotor. The building is distinguished by two bell towers with black domes embellished with golden crosses, as well as a magnificent mosaic above the entrance. Near the church there is also a treasury with a rich collection of icons, works of art, documents and church costumes. The foundations of an earlier temple, which burned down in the 19th century, were apparently used as part of the construction. The church is open to the public but you must be correctly covered, for example men cannot enter while dressed in shorts, to access.

A don't miss stop in the old city. Beautiful old church with a large gift stand at the entrance run by the church. You can find things here that you cannot find anywhere else in the city.

Kotor has many old churches in the Old Town. St. Nikola Church is younger than the others, it was built at the beginning of 20th century. I think it’s a beautiful Orthodox church with lots of impressive icons. It’s worth a visit.

Right in the heart of the old town this beautiful church has a commanding site. Doors are always open. My daughter married here last September & they couldn't do enough to help. Two wonderful priests conducted the ceremony with a local choir making her wedding extra special. Doors are left open for all to have a peek & make sure you do so whatever the occasion you will be warmly welcomed inside! This church is open to all so go in & light a candle to remember those loved ones who are so important to you.

St. Nikola is the most important Orthodox Church in Kotor. It was built in 1902 on the foundations of an older building that was destroyed by fire in the nineteenth century. It was built in the Pseudo-Byzantine style as one-nave church. The church has a large cupola which rises above the rooftops, while the details were done in a Romanesque style. The silver pieces and icons are impressive.
This is the first Orthodox Church I have visited so I was surprised that there were no pews and no big altar like Catholic Churches.

This is one of the youngest buildings in Kotor, built on the same spot of previous church that was burnt accidentally.
This church belongs to Serbian Orthodox Church and it has a beautiful Iconostasis, an magnum opus of Czech painter Frantisek Cigler. It has a wonderful interior with 4 paintings of Four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This paintings are a gift from Russian Orthodox Church for 100 years anniversary of St. Nicholas Church and for 175 years of Serbian Choral Society "Jedinstvo" (Unity), the oldest choir in South-East Europe.
It's a must to visit this church, especially for those who have a very little knowledge about Orthodox faith. It has a fantastic acoustic and the choir is organizing and attending many events regularly.
There is no entrance fee, which means is open for everyone, but there are some rules to follow.
For men: take off you hats and sunglasses, have a decent garments and don't take an animal inside or beverage/icecream/chewing a gum while are you in the church.
For women - all the same, but don't exaggerate with short skirts, hot pants, short shorts, exaggeratedly open cleavage, have a scarf.
You can take photos but with no flash. And don't shout or make a noise, sit on chairs - not on the floor.

St. Nikola Church was most definitely a highlight of our trip to Kotor! This church has a relic of St. Nicholas inside visible to all. After our first trip there, we returned primarily to see this relic again, and took with us several items to touch to the relic. Our son was named after St. Nicholas and now has several relics of his namesake. Great trip!
