The Serpentine is a must-see in Montenegro. The landscapes are magnificent, and this winding road will take you to the entrance of the Lovćen National Park. For those who have already been to a resort, and/or who have walked in the Alps, driving is not more difficult. I recommend walking the Serpentine early in the morning (8am max). Not only is it cooler, but there is very little traffic.

This drive is not for the faint-hearted. Beside the hairpin turns, the road is very narrow and two-way, so you've got to be really careful. Weather is also an important factor: It's often cloudy and foggy in the mountains, so the view is not great. We were there in off-season, when there was less traffic, but I imagine that in peak season, it could be hairy.

Great road trip and we did it with a small narrow car rented in our hotel.
Narrow moment when cross truck, Buss and had to back up several times.
But the top view and driving the serpentine is unique. A
So many corner and my Co pilote was great to see for me.
40 min to go up and 1 hour down back to Kotor due to traffic and even met 5 big Buss going up.
Should not be allowed as too narrow most of time.
We enjoyed

On a clear sunny day the view is spectacular. The top is more than 3000ft above Kotor Bay and the near-vertical drop almost makes it feel like being in a light aircraft. Road surface is good but often too narrow for opposing traffic to pass easily. Some reversing is almost guaranteed, especially when coming face to face with a coach or truck. It's got to be one of the most rewarding drives in Europe.

To do ! For the experience but above all the superb view of the Bay of Kotor. Be patient when you come across a large vehicle and he or you have to back up. But having tested the roads of Corsica, it's okay, I expected worse. There are low walls on the side and vegetation, all of which is reassuring.

An amazing drive and an incredible experience.

The Kotor Serpentine is a must-do if you are in Montenegro. Yes, the driving is a little hairy - particularly when confronted with a lorry or coach coming the other way - but the view from the top is completely stunning.

Thoroughly recommended.

Our cruise ship docked for the day. We did the "Best of Montenegro" NCL Shore Excursion. We started about 9am which is the best time. Traffic gets heavy after 10am. It was scary but the view on top is amazing! You could see the whole Bay of Kotor and surrounding areas. We had a good guide. She was very knowledgeable. We stopped at all the right places for photos.

Wow! The views left me speechless. The serpentine is not for the faint of heart.
Narrow, winding, steep. Surprised I didn’t get sick.
It was worth it!

Highly recommended - not easy but not impossible! I would not attempt it in bad weather ... we drove down so we could easily enjoy the spectacular views!

Too many hairpin ends to count, less scarier than what I read but still need to concentrate and be careful. Views are spectacular and lots of places to stop; had to pass oncoming cars carefully but not impossible/dangerous. Went late afternoon to avoid coaches and trucks and it paid off. Drove down which is highly recommended - just do it!!
