I spend ages days in Lviv not knowing exactly where to go to see the inside of Lviv where the locals go. The old town in Lviv is getting more and more renovated, new shops and very interesting restaurant concepts are opening there. It is a car free zone and very interesting to stroll along and seeing the old buildings. In the summer a great place to relax in one of the many terraces for a drink or two.

Most old buildings survived several wars, but not the original population. Almost all Jewish inhabitants were massacred by the Nazis (a quarter of old Lwow) and in the period 1944 -1950 most Polish inhabitants were forced out (two thirds of old Lwow). Ukrainians from the surroundings and Russians from other parts of the Soviet Union moved in. The result is... More

Definitely 2 days at least of exploring. My wife and I love the coffee shops and all the well areas behind the road store fronts.

With so many Old Towns in Europe having been destroyed in WWII, or since with poor 'development' Lviv's 'all original' Old Town (with one building which is a hideous glaring exception) is fabulous. Unlike Prague for example there are very few tourists. It's a gem. Was way beyond my expectations.

Look past the fact that most of the buildings need TLC, and some paint, they are beautiful and the old city is lovely to wander around! Watch where you walk as the cobblestones are uneven and you can easily trip if you are looking up, but this is a lovely city!

The old part of the city is absolutely beautiful. In the last ten years it has become incredibly tourist friendly and has received a much needed facelift.

Historic UNESCO city centre, so there is lots to keep you entertained and interested for a few days. Climb the tower for brilliant views right in the heart of the market square. There are some of the most beautiful churches dotted around the city centre, including an Armenian Church which was stunning. Lots of museums, great and inexpensive restaurants, bars... More

It can be a bit crowded, but it's understandable as it is the most popular part of Lviv. There are many cafes and souvenir stores there. I'd strongly recommend to visit the Coffee Maze! You'll be surprised. :-) It's fun to walk there at evening. Oh God, you will fall in love with Lviv after that! :-) Lovely place with... More
