A must but go in the morning
It's getting improved every year so now the water cistern are used to display the historical findings in the fortress by using beamers which create nice visual effects. Go in the morning or in the evening bc we were there at 10 AM and it was already hot. It's ok to go by foot from the city, even if it seems so uphill, the climb is not that hard. Cheap tickets... you can buy combined tickets for both fortresses (Barone) for €10. There is a bar in the shade to relax so don't be afraid of the sun.
Dear 568marija_, thanks for your review. We're happy you visited our fortress again, it seems you enjoyed new digital contents our fortress has to offer. Kind regards, Barbara

Must see when u visit Sibenik !
I visited Sibenik and decided to see the fortress too. After a nice walk next to the port, I went with small streets next to the fortress from where there is a nice view point to see the city. The fortress is very nice piece of military architecture as well. You should see it !
Dear 31jacekt, we're happy you loved St. Michaels's fortress, thanks for your recommendation. Come back soon! Kind regards, Barbara

Spectacular and wide-ranging views, well worth the walk and entrance fee.
It was well worth the moderate walk up steps from the old town to experience the spectacular views from the fortress up and down the Krka river, downwards to the city of Siberia and the roof of St. James’s Cathedral, and out to the islands..The view compares well with those from Mount Srd and from the fortress over Hvar Town. There was plenty of information about the history of the fortress and the other fortifications. All paths and steps were well-maintained,
Dear James G, thank you for coming and for leaving us two reviews, so glad that you enjoyed spending time here! With our open-air stage (which is a part of the summer concert program), we wanted to create a historical but also a contemporary effect. Hoping you'll visit us again soon, but this time for a concert. Kind regards, Barbara

The fortres is in a walking distance from the port. Walking in this direction through Sibenik streets is great itself as The City is old and beautifull. There is a lot of shops and restaurants on the way aswell. The fortres itself is for 30 minits visiting aproximetly as beside the georgeuse views there is notging else you can do there. Anyhow is worth seeing.

Croatia is full of medieval forts but they usually disappear in ruins which is sad considering how many we have and how awesome stories can be told about them. Guests visiting our country are missing the opportunity to learn some more about the history. That's why I was so satisfied with St. Michael's fortress, birthplace of City of Šibenik, because it was taken care of. Every step I made inside was experience to remember. Viewpoints, audio guide, maintained paths, preserved walls of the fortress and info boards it let's you learn the history while taking a walk and enjoying the view of Šibenik! This is how all medieval forts should be treated, it is our heritage! Congrats!

We really liked our visit to the fortress. First of all, it's easily accessible. Unlike most forts, this one is practically in the old town, and hike up the hill is not tiresome at all.

The fortress is nice, you can get an interactive tablet with the information on the history of the fortress.

But the thing that is the best, the thing that makes the ticket's money worth is the view. We went there at the sunset, and it was one of the best things we've seen that day.

Guuuyz! I visited the fortress and it was surprisingly awesome. The view at the top is something special, on all sides of the fortress. Beside the view I have the possibility to see the water tanks where an 3D show was organised about the town itself and the St Mihael. Definitely worth of the ticket. 👍

Very nice view over the city. The fortress is well renovated. The “3D Show” is a bit awkward and in the year 2022 not really overwhelming.
The toilets were really disgusting. I don’t want to imagine how they look like in high season with more guests.

This is the sort of climb that my dear wife likes me to undertake in order to check whether my Defibrillator and Pacemaker are still working properly. I’m Happy to confirm that they are. Young bronzed lovely people loped casually past us skipping from step to step to demonstrate how vital and well honed their shapely legs were . I stomped upwards in a cross cross manner ~ a technique I’d picked up watching the older inhabitants of St Ives in Cornwall using. It works but you travel twice as far . The view from the top was jolly good and the little viewing platform was a bit crowded so I had to push several people off who were self absorbed in taking selfies. It has a Cafe and although it’s a tad pricey but it’s worth it { I wasn’t paying}

Mighty fortress, standing tall and guarding the City of Šibenik. Cool place whith wonderfull view on the City and the sea in front. Really beautiful and relaxing. Inside you can read about soldiers and architects who over time built and extended the fortress that defended Šibenik from the Ottomans. The fortress offers a stage for concerts and nice bar under the auditorium. Really nice. There are more interesting things to look at like a computer graphic of various representations displayed on the walls inside the fortress in two places. Nice. My love and I liked the fortress. Come and see for yourself.

We visited the Fort or should I say, spectacular concert venue.

The Fort itself is tiny with hardly any exhibits or historical notes. It really all about the incredible views and concert venue.

We didn't actually see a concert (all sold out when we went), so we wandered around the empty stadium. I can imagine a concert here would be an unforgettable experience - it's just a little flat by day.

Nice enough to see and good exercise to visit.

Recently renovated and it’s a nice place to see with some good views. All of the information around the fortress is written in English so very helpful and good to get the history. Some great views of the city below and out to sea.

I spent a couple of days in Sibenik, a marvelous town on the Dalmatian coast, in a room belonging to Bed & Breakfast Knoba, that I warmly recommend. Although Sibenik has many interesting ancient buildings, a pretty Renaissance garden and a pleasant beach, the two highlights of my visit were the cathedral (see review) and St Michel's Fortress - also called St. Ana Fortress -, mainly due to the wonderful views it offers.

Tip for Sibenik: If you are going to stay in the old city, learn about the exact place beforehand, because cars can't get into that area and it is built on a steep hill, with lots of steps. If you know, you can decide how to reach your accommodation best.

Tip for the fortress: Put on comfortable shoes and a hat and take some water, because it's a long, steep way up to the fortress.
