We stopped here en route from Zadar to Split. The church was pretty impressive and we were able to grab a nearby parking spot. We were glad we saw it.
Note that you can take photos without a flash. We were unaware of this as the sign at the entrance indicated no cameras allowed. Also, there were about a dozen people there when we visited. We were the only ones wearing masks despite their rule requiring masks.

If you´re traveling by road between Split and Istria Peninsula, this stop is a must. The town in lovely, although very hot in Summer, but the Cathedral is worth it. It has a beautiful façade, with geometrical perfection, that served as an inspiration for the one in Zadar.
But besides its symmetric balance, it´s full with sculptures and carvings that make it unique. Take a parasol and surround the building, to admire the lions gate and the heads in the apse.
The locals are so proud of their church, they built a great museum to give more information about it.

The cathedral impresses with its external beauty and its embedded location in the old town. A multitude of sculptures and elements are waiting to be discovered.
Despite the interior renovation, the full entrance fee of €5 was charged, although two thirds of it could not be seen due to the scaffolding. There was no indication of the construction work.

On a really interesting walking tour of the old town of Sibenik, we entered the square opposite the Cathedral of St James. It's a really impressive building with fantastic stonework (especially the door surrounds) & the history of the way the roof was unbelievably saved during the war is something you will need to ask your guide to explain, a facinating story. The old city hall opposite houses an old cofe/restaurant of great character & we had coffees/drinks there with a great view of the Cathedral before continuing on our tour of this ancient & interesting city.

The exterior of this cathedral is majestic. Inside is less thrilling, though the kaleidoscope of colour of the sun beaming through the stain glass windows makes it worth a look. Sadly it was under internal renovation during our mid April visit so we did not see it as its best.

We had a very intesting tour of Sibenik, to include the Unesco protected, very unique St. James Cathedral. it is a must see.
There are many carved figures on the columns outside. They were all carved into the stone.
Inside there are many beautiful paintings and displays. Construction of the church lasted from 1431 to 1536. WOW!!

Quick and easy visit of the cathedral was quite impressive. You will be able to walk inside, visit as you please and take pictures. Take your time, there are quite a lot of details all around inside. I love the light coming in behind the altar, it is quite dramatic.
Highly recommended + the city museum.

Fascinating completely stone built - including the entire roof.
Now needing more modern support eg scaffolding. Interesting history.
Admission is cheap AND includes its recently completed modern interpretation centre in nearby former palace. The centre interpretation boards are also in English. Fascinating modern digital "illustrations". Clear explanation throughout of the purpose and link to the Christian faith.
We were lucky enough to meet the young architect and designer of the centre, and who was rightly proud of his work.

Nice building full of points of interest explained in a booklet.
The baptistery is beautiful really.
The statue of Christ on the cross is blatantly realistic.
Note the numerous tombs of this building.
The ticket also includes the museum visit which is recommended:-)

Entry costs €10 per person. But you can also visit the museum attached to it. It is important that you come in appropriate clothing, but there are also appropriate "garments" to put on. Definitely worth seeing, but you shouldn't plan too much time here either. The church isn't that big 😉
For those who want to find out more about the church's construction, the museum is definitely a must. Very interesting.
