Due to its unique natural features, magnificent forests and extraordinary geomorphologic structures, the area of Velika and Mala Paklenica was proclaimed a national park in 1949. The main reason for proclaiming this area a national park was the protection of the largest and best preserved forest complex in the territory of Dalmatia, which was threatened by overexploitation. The Paklenica National Park stretches on the area of 95 km2 , on the littoral slope of South Velebit under the zone of highest mountain peaks Vaganski vrh (1752) and Sveto brdo (1753).

We hiked two days in a row inside the Paklenica National Park, walking 6-8 hours a day up to a maximum altitude of 1150 m. We saw impressive canyons along the way witnessing climbers testing their skills to scale the vertical assents. We also walked to the saddle of Pod Jaginim Kukom which offered a great view up to Bojin... More

Phillip was a great guide. His knowledge of Paklenica National park was on point. The views were stunning and the hike was so much fun. Phillip was really energetic despite the rainy cold weather but there's no such things as "bad weather" only bad clothing. I definitely recommend coming here to see the great waterfalls and lakes. It's stunning and... More

I read some other reviews before finally writing to get a more overall view on how others enjoyed or didnt enjoy this park. I will compare my thoughts here about visiting this park for about 5-6 hours and finally climbing the last section of the track in complete darkness, through a steep trail down a canyon, without any knowing about... We enjoyed our walk here. Low season so not busy although plenary of climbers to see. We just walked up the main path to the first hut (lugustoour or similar). Saw snakes, small lizards and lovely (apparently rare) butterflies. Read website to check hut opening times etc if you wish to buy food, esp low season. We just took picnic... More

Enchanting in any weather. Stunning waterfalls and flora abound. Get the selfies stick reaey, wear your walking boots/shoes, pack a little lunch an enjoy the natural splendour for the day. Walking surface is fairly even but there are a lot of bumpy areas and steps so not suitable for buggies and limited access for wheelchairs. You can buy entrance and... More

Even if you are not the athletic type, a hike in Paklenica Big Canyon can be done. The trail can be easily walked up to the mountain house in 3 hours. Along the trail there are two wells for filling up your bottle with fresh water (might dry up during long hot summers, though), the Paklenica creek runs along the... More

We visited in early march - so v cold - walking along main path was great (paved albeit slightly slippery at parts). National park is really well protected so lots to look out for. Scenery is second to none. However after branching off at the last hut, and continuing on what we thought was just a hiking trail, we ended... More
