Worth a look if you're already in town, but it's definitely not something to go out of your way for. Age wise, it's fascinating because it's the oldest gate in Pula, built around 47-44 BC. The head of Hercules (and his club) carved at the top is still visible even though its been weathered for over 2000 years. It's definitely not the most spectacular Roman ruin in the city, but again, it's worth a look if you're already there.

Again we stumbled upon this amazingly well preserved gateway to the archaeological museum, we did not go into the museum but strolled around the grounds where there was a dig in progress and many old ruins that were there for us to see. Will definitely go back.

I saw it during my walk of the Pula's Historic Center. It is one of the remaining Stone Gates here, took some pictures and moved on.

Another of the handful of Roman gates in Pula although you wouldn’t actually know it. It isn’t very ornate and serves as the outer entrance to a building so you can’t freely walk through it. Why is it called the Gate of a Hercules? Who knows! There is no name plate or any other detail to tell you about it at the location. I only knew it was the Gate I was looking for by matching it to a photo on the Internet.
I am only giving it two “stars” out of respect for its age.

Literally two minutes from the Double Gate and onto the Victory Arch. It is well preserved and really worth the effort to look.

I notice the reviews aren't great, but I enjoyed the history, and the fact it was built by a woman, who's name is carved at the top!

Very plain and unbelievably difficult to find - we walked past it several times as we searched for it for ages on a boiling hot day - probably not worth the effort.

Considering how old this gate is, this simplistic architecture is amazing and well preserved against the damage of time and not to mention wars that swept this region. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to see this and touch the stones. I felt such connections with people who lived centuries ago and never imagined one day tourists will flock to see their creation.
