About
Welcome to Aquarium Pula, where in a unique way the richness of the Adriatic is combined with the centennial military history of Pula. The Aquarium is situated within the 130-year-old fort “Verudela”, once part of the powerful defence complex “Fortress Pula” built during the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy. The historical fort is nowadays inhabited by hundreds of fish species from the northern and the southern portions of the Adriatic and several tropical marine and fresh water species, as well as fish from Croatian lakes and rivers. Meet our inhabitants in rooms, hallways, tunnels and the moat of the once mighty fort and discover secrets of the aquatic environment!

- EwanUnited Kingdom267 contributionsA lovely few hours in the AquariumWe came on a hot day so it was quiet allowing us to explore at a slow pace and enjoy seeing everything this aquarium had to offer. It really shows off how much the animals are looked after and the icing in the cake was seeing Anika the turtle. Good value for money considering how much we saw and the history of the fort too.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 17, 2023
- IstriagoPula, Croatia479 contributionsAQUARIUM PULA WEALTH OF THE SEAAQUARIUM PULA WEALTH OF THE SEA Aquarium Pula is a beautiful attraction located in the tourist part of the town of Pula, Verudela. On arrival, we came across a parking lot for both cars and bicycles. The Aquarium is located in the old Austro-Hungarian fortress, which is more than 130 years old, thus bringing together the sea and military history of the city of Pula. The fort itself was created on several floors with a scout at the very top where you can see the Pješčana Uvala, Fratarski island, and the whole part around the fort. At the entrance, there is a fan shop where you can buy souvenirs or other products related to the sea, Pula, and the aquarium. Upon entering we came across several outdoor pools containing crabs and colorful sea fish. The aquarium itself has a concept that covers not only the Adriatic Sea but also other water experiences. Get to know the aquatic world of the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, tropical beauties and, in addition to salt, they also have freshwater content along the North Sea. The efforts that the employees of Aquarium Pula contribute to the maintenance and development of the same and thus make this Pula attraction interesting are visible. Awareness is raised about the very perception of water masses, sea, and water as a drink, as well as the development and protection of the most sensitive and endangered Adriatic species. There are of course turtles that rehabilitate them if they are accidentally found injured somewhere. The aquarium itself also offers education, and info boards can be found in all places, and individual or group guided tours of the aquarium exhibition can be arranged. More than 100 species of fish, crabs, jellyfish, corals, grasses, turtles will leave you with a positive impression and awareness of the sea and their relaxed movement in the aquatic world. In addition to the marine world, there is an exhibition of walks with butterflies, a terrarium, and a children’s corner for photographing animals of the right sizes. One of the commendable attractions that should be visited in Pula for the family as well as for individual education and raising awareness of the sea. Tips: You can also do a small service at the bike site because they have a bike repair station. - Al GLydney, United Kingdom36 contributionsJune 24 visitReally enjoyed the Aquarium and exhibits. The dedication to conservation is clear and the fish all look healthy and well cared for. We all really enjoyed it and better than any Aquarium I have been to in UK. I would imagine it will get busy in peak times but our visit was relatively quiet. Exceeded my expectations.Great way to spend a couple of hours.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 21, 2024
- judithalisonshortSheffield, United Kingdom14 contributionsFascinating placeFantastic aquarium with good educational materials as well as interesting exhibits of local and more exotic sea life. In two very interesting repurposed buildings. Includes an exhibition of Navy memorabilia and model ships. Well worth a visit.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 11, 2024
- Shuyi Y4 contributionsIt’s ok as a short activity. While the aquarium is housed in a historical building, the actual exhibits were somewhat underwhelming. The variety of sea creatures on display was quite limited. If you're someone who has visited larger aquariums, this one might not live up to your expectations.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 19, 2024
- Adrienn KBudapest, Hungary19 contributionsGreat possibillity to have a closer look to the underwater worldGreat experience to discover underwater world. There are plenty of aquariums. No queing, we did not purchase out tickets befour our visit, we started our visit at 6pm. Not sure if it is crowdy during the day. Parking is easy, there are plety lots in front of the aquariums. Check both buildings, the one which is bit further from the main entrqnce has the sharks. We would appreciate more information on the fishes and other animals to learn more.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 21, 2024

Following the positive reviews I found on Trip Advisor I went to the aquarium with my wife and kids aged 7, 5 and 4. I must admit I was disappointed with my visit. We payed 500 HRK for the entrance and that was for sure not worth it. I have visited few other similar aquariums and this one was without any doubt the worst of them. The biggest disadvantage is the building itself - it is located in the old fort and as a result there is no easy path to follow. You need to go back and forth to see all available fish. Secondly the number of different species is not high. There aren’t any huge fish available. During our visit many aquarium windows were sprayed with the glass cleaner and there was a lot of foam on them making it difficult to see what is inside. It was a rainy day, so there were many visitors and the queue for tickets was quite long. It was also quite crowded inside. The styrofoam models placed outside seemed really fatigued and should be already either renovated or removed. To sum up In one sentence - find something better to see.

Went today....The employee knew a parent was there three days ago, showed the annual voucher and they sayed
they need proof it's us ,but they proceeded to ask two children for their ID card for proof(children are not obligated to have their documents with them).
They then sayed to call their parents to send a picture of ID's.
They rudely sayed to come back another time.......

The aquarium is beautiful. I can't understand the bad reviews at all. We were totally thrilled and positively surprised. It was huge and it took us almost 4 hours to visit. There is even a new exotic area in another building down the hill. All of this explains the high entrance fee of €20 per adult. There were lots of corridors with an incredible number of aquariums and warship models. Outside there were tortoises, lizards and butterflies. A huge focus was on a water turtle, which had its own room with an incredible amount of information around it. Also child-friendly with lighting, audio play, touchscreen game, dice to turn, etc. We found the way it is embedded in the bunker fascinating and exceptionally beautiful. We really liked it and we recommend that anyone who is in the area visit the aquarium.

The way they incorporated the aquarium exhibits into this building that used to be a fortress is really cool. At the same time you can learn about the history of the place and about the sea life in Adriatic sea. This is not as big aquarium as you can visit in London, Portugal or other locations, but it's a cute one.

Because of the negative reviews here, we had already decided against going to the aquarium with 4 children (entrance fee for us was €100). In the end, we took the risk and are very happy about it. We were not disappointed. It was very, very beautiful and interesting. You can plan a whole morning for it. Despite an hour's drive, we were there at around 10 a.m. and there were no long lines to wait in.
If you don't go, you've simply missed something.
And yes, of course, in my opinion there is no aquarium tank in the whole world that really does justice to any fish compared to freedom.
But there is also no bird cage big enough and no zoo that does justice to any animal compared to freedom.
But you know that before you go there.

The idea and the facility are cool. But for 20 euros entry you find a pile of tanks with fish that you feel sorry for. Unkempt aquariums covered in algae. Carelessly decorated tanks. An electrical circuit for pumps that is sometimes life-threatening. Water leaking from the tank. Not suitable for people with disabilities as several parts are underground or 1-2 floors and the lifting platform is broken. There is no simple lift. To go in downstairs you have to buy tickets in the upper part of the facility.
Hardly barrier-free because of the steps and holes.
Overall an insult to the animals and a rip-off of people. What is brilliant is that it is open until late in the evening. So it is better to visit in the evening.
You can do better!!!

It was a bit hard to find a parking spot. We needed to walk 10 minutes from a parkingspot to the aquarium. The route in the park towards the building is also quite long and uphill.
The aquarium itself looked very nice. The water was very clear and the animals looked good taken care off.
The building contained 2 levels, a roof and a basement, so it was pretty big for the entree price.
The only minus point is, there was 0 handicap innovations. There was a rollchair elevator, but it was broken (apperently it is for a long time).

Visited on a rainy day, it was a beautiful find. Already the structure itself is so fascinating that it deserves to be seen. But still everything is beautiful as they created it, then divided into two locations, the honest price, I have seen worse at higher prices. I don't give 5 just because they should review the ventilation system, on a busy day like in August when it rains, in the small room there is stale air and you can not breathe but I still recommend it for both children and adults

Avoid if possible , the entrance fee of 20 e per person was way too much for what was there. Some of the fish tanks seemed too small for the size of the fish. For an Aquarium it was very small with a small variety of sea life. The only plus about the day was there was quite a lot to do around the area it was a nice location near the sea.

Pozdrav, jel prigodan posjet s bebom u kolicima ili nosiljci?
Written September 21, 2019

Written August 5, 2020
Is there disabled access, ie with ramps and lifts to each floor?
Written September 26, 2018
Unfortunately, I would say this attraction is not ideally suited to wheelchair users.
