About
Welcome to Aquarium Pula, where in a unique way the richness of the Adriatic is combined with the centennial military history of Pula. The Aquarium is situated within the 130-year-old fort “Verudela”, once part of the powerful defence complex “Fortress Pula” built during the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy. The historical fort is nowadays inhabited by hundreds of fish species from the northern and the southern portions of the Adriatic and several tropical marine and fresh water species, as well as fish from Croatian lakes and rivers. Meet our inhabitants in rooms, hallways, tunnels and the moat of the once mighty fort and discover secrets of the aquatic environment!

We were here for the first time. The price was only 50 HRK p.p. (croatian kuna) because of the situation...The price is much higher in "regular" touristic season for foreigners (and us croatians) but that is a another story...
The Aquarium is situated within the 130 year old fort "Verudela" built during the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy which included today's modern Croatian state.
There are inside many rooms with various exhibits, it was very interesting and a good way to spend hour or two.
Recommend to everyone, just enjoy!

The way they incorporated the aquarium exhibits into this building that used to be a fortress is really cool. At the same time you can learn about the history of the place and about the sea life in Adriatic sea. This is not as big aquarium as you can visit in London, Portugal or other locations, but it's a cute one.

We visited here on a day where the weather wasn't so great. The price was okay compared to UK aquariums and it provided exactly what you would expect from an aquarium. There was a lot of fish to see and was divided into different sections, but there wasn't a lot of space to move around. Some of the aquarium required you to go outside which obviously isn't ideal in the rain so we left those parts out. Overall, a decent aquarium and worth a visit if you're at a loose end

Following the positive reviews I found on Trip Advisor I went to the aquarium with my wife and kids aged 7, 5 and 4. I must admit I was disappointed with my visit. We payed 500 HRK for the entrance and that was for sure not worth it. I have visited few other similar aquariums and this one was without any doubt the worst of them. The biggest disadvantage is the building itself - it is located in the old fort and as a result there is no easy path to follow. You need to go back and forth to see all available fish. Secondly the number of different species is not high. There aren’t any huge fish available. During our visit many aquarium windows were sprayed with the glass cleaner and there was a lot of foam on them making it difficult to see what is inside. It was a rainy day, so there were many visitors and the queue for tickets was quite long. It was also quite crowded inside. The styrofoam models placed outside seemed really fatigued and should be already either renovated or removed. To sum up In one sentence - find something better to see.

Yes, its all a bit old. And not too big (yet larger than it seems from outside)
But: If you really have some interest, it is well worth the visit. Good diversity of species, nicely embedded into the fort architecture and its history.
Tipp: See the shark feeding Mon/Wed/Fri at noon, its well explained by a guide. But very crowded around the tank then…
No Covid restrictions, though here in some small hallways and tunnels you think they should still have them. Not even talking about fire security… many of the rooms would be a trap in case of emergency. But hey, it‘s and old fort.

The place is very nice, located ať the old Fort. Many fish&sea animals, many information provided, sharks, see horses… my younger kid (3 years) got little bored after a while. Would definitely recommend for the fish and diving lovers, could be tiresome for the small kids

Fantastic. Lot of information, interestìng trivia, a lot of animals I did not except to see (shark, octopuss, iguana)... We spent over 2 hours there, I think people who are marine biologists and similar experts could easily spend the whole day there. They gave videos, special games and quizzes, fun facts etc. (in croatian and english), 4 levels (level +1 and +2 were particularly interesting). A must see in Pula

We visited this aquarium during our sailing trip in Istria. Due to bad weather forecast we had to stay in marina so we had an extra day to walk around, se we decided to go to aquarium and I must say it is worth visiting. We recommend it if you have children.

Would definitely recommend visiting here if you have kids or any interest in sea life. This aquarium is huge over multiple floors with some amazing sea life to see. They have many amazing tanks with all kinds of fish and reptiles, a nursery and even a rehabilitation centre for injured sea life to heal before they are released back into the ocean. All the signs and information are translated into English too, so easily able to understand and learn. On the top floor they also have an outdoor area perfect for having a bite to eat with an amazing view of the Adriatic Sea. We were really lucky and had the place to ourselves (mostly likely because all the surrounding hotels and campsites are closed during this season) but still managed to spend over 2 hours roaming around taking in this incredible aquarium.

We went here in the morning before our flight home. It has mixed reviews and to be honest don’t bother unless you really have nothing else to do. It’s small, not that Interesting. Not a lot of species and it’s expensive for what it had to offer. I would tell friends to not go there

Is there disabled access, ie with ramps and lifts to each floor?

Unfortunately, I would say this attraction is not ideally suited to wheelchair users.
