This bridge is an unmissable feature while sailing in and out of Dubrovnik Port of Gruž.

It spans over Rijeka Dubrovačka (River Dubrovnik) for 518 metres (1,699 feet) and is 14.2 metres (47 feet) wide. The clearance between the bridge and the water below is 49 metres (161 feet).

The cable-stayed bridge links the D8, State Road with the western approach to the City. The pylon which supports the cables is 141.5 metres (464 feet) tall and can be seen from near and far.

It is named the  Franjo Tuđman Bridge, in honour of the first President of Croatia following the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. He held the post from 1990 until his death in 1999.

The original bridge design was drawn up in 1989, however, construction was postponed due to the Croatian War of Independence. The Bridge finally opened on 11th May 2002.

We did not drive over the Bridge, however we did sail by which to be honest is the best way to see it.

Sailed under this bridge, then drove around it on short tour of the greater Dubrovnik area, & best of all - drove over it.
The Obala inlet route is a narrow winding road so locals would have been enraptured by this bridge. Gruz port likewise would have been relieved of huge congestion too.
Super highway with great views down the coast & over to the islands of Lopud, Sipan Mljet, & Ston. The new bridge to bypass Neum corridor will be a major project to say the least.

Can't miss it if you're near Dubrovnik, whether on the road or on the water, and I reckon you wouldn't want to. You'll drive over it if you're coming from the north, and there's a pullout to the side of the road where you can take photos.

This bridge is located just north of Dubrovnik. Stop here on the north side for some great views. You can easily park, take pictures from the parking area or walk the bridge.

This is a cable-stayed bridge with semi-fan system constructed with prestressed and steel-reinforced concrete and completed in 2002. With a total length of 481m, it's a baby when compared to similar structures in other countries, some of which exceed one kilometer in length. You will see it as your ship enters harbor, this is perhaps the best view for a photo. It was originally named the Dubrovnik Bridge, but at the insistence of the Dubrovnik Mayor, was renamed in 2004 to The Bridge of dr. Franjo Tuđman, the first Croatian president of the post Yugoslavia era.

This modern 1899' long cable-stayed road bridge is stunning, but it is perhaps more significant for its representation Dubrovnik's triumph as it recovered from the Croatian War of Independence 1991-95. Construction was interrupted by the fighting after this bridge, spanning Rijeka Dubrovadka near the Port of Grud, was begun. Once the hostilities stopped with the country gaining its independence, Dubrovnik rapidly recovered. Faculty at University of Zagreb, tasked with redesigning the partly-built structure, managed to get the bridge was completed in 2002. Don't miss this bridge, easily viewable from the port and the city itself..

The bridge is a stunning piece of architecture and built in 2002. It is located a few miles from the Old Town. All the cruise liners touring the Med stop here and thousands of tourists pour into Dubrovnik.

When my wife and I first came to the Croatian part of Yugoslavia in 1971 the roads were basic and bridges, such as this, were non existent.
Now in modern independent Croatia the road infrastructure is much improved.
The bridge, named after the first president of Croatia, has reduced the necessity of driving around the bay, and sits beautifully in the Dubrovnic environment.

Quite an addition to a revitalised southern Croatian coast. This bridge cuts quite a few kilometres off the original route around the cove. Also named after the first president of an independent Croatia.

At the overlook just past the bridge, take in the great views of the bridge and the picturesque bay below.
