Eastern entrance to old town Dubrovnik.
Its the second best of the 3 gates after Pile gate. It is near the old town harbour and has a lovely board walk to the left of the entrance and you can get some nice pics from there. You enter over a little bridge and through the gate and come out on Stradun St. There is good access to the cable car just outside the gate. There is also some restaurants nearby as well. It also the Red keep entrance for G.O.T fans going to the old town.

    Nice gate next to Harbour
Really nice gate located next to harbour, believe it’s the only gate that allows vehicles to enter. Loved the view of harbour from the gate and the city view looking up to the mountains. Make sure you take the time to walk through gates to the walled city.

The main entrance to Old Town from the Eastern side
Ploče Gate is the main entrance to Old Town from the Eastern side, (also known as Vrata od Ploča) and it wase built at the end of 14th century. The gate consist of inner and outer section and is reached by an imposing stone bridge with beautiful stone balustrade and leads to the Luza Square and the Stradun. A moat separates the gate and the Revelin Fortress. Above the entrance of the Gate there is a statue of Sveti Vlaho. The Revelin Fortress is built into the outer section of the Gate as a handy lookout point for town’s eastern approach.

As we walked down from our hotel you could see the size, scale and grander of the gate. The bridge across the old moat area lets you see how high it really is from the base as well as great views across the harbour.
Wonderful entrance to a medieval town

My opinion is this gate has the best views of the city walls when entering Dubrovnik. This was the closest gate to our hotel so we used it frequently (maybe I am a little bias lol).

I also felt like it wasn’t as crowded as the other gate where all the buses stop from the cruises etc.

Also this the best gate to enter to walk the city walls. The entrance to the walls at the Ploce Gate has the most steps and uphill climb and is best to get it out of the way first (again my opinion only). I read other reviews before my wife and I walked the wall and they were definitely true about starting there.

This was our way in and out of the city every day, as our airbnb was just up the hill from there. The Harbour right there, and the bridge lite up at night gave it so much charm and character!

This is my favourite gate as it is less busy than Pile Gate and more scenic than the gate on the north side of the walls. It is near the port so from the small bridge just outside the gate you get good views of the boats in the harbour and its surroundings. There is also a small, peaceful shady garden, just outside this gate and under the bridge which is a nice spot to sit. Just outside this gate is a bakery and supermarket where you can buy sensibly priced food and sit on the wall of the bridge or in the garden to eat.

Dubrovnik eastern entrance also known as Vrata od Ploca, approach by a stone bridge followed by a wooden drawbridge used to be pulled at night. Above the entrance of the Gate there is a statue of Sveti Vlaho, the patron saint of Dubrovnik.

Nothing too fantastic in itself but we passed through it whenever we wanted to take the 8 bus back to Ploce. It’s less crowded than Pile gate as the cruise ship tourists don’t pass this way. Next year (2019) the Mayor is reducing the cruise ship intake to two daily- reduced from 6 so coming this way is a definite bonus. You can also buy cable car tickets nearby.

We took a taxi to this gate from the cruise port because it is less busy and by entering here, you will do the toughest part of the climb + tower climb first. You want to go early (for opening) because it gets really hot up on the wall with no shade. Everyone walks counter clockwise around the wall so if you enter here, there are less people, you climb the hard part while in shade and by the time you get to the Pile Gate, the initial opening crowd has dispersed along the wall. Your halfway point will now be along the ocean wall (breezes and bars :)) Once you climb the last bit to get to the ocean wall, the rest is easy. Once we got to the harbour side, we got off, walked through the main street (detoured to right, out gate and up cable car for an awesome view, then back to Main Street, out Pile Gate & taxi back to ship.

We actually sat by the place gate and ate some pastries and had a coffee before entering the old city, it's a pretty gate and has some marble seating on either side.

Of course most people enter the old town via the Pile gate, but coming in via the Ploce gate is less busy and a good way to get to the main centre of the old town without having to fight off the crowds.

It's worth walking around the outside of the old town to enter via this gate and convenient if heading to the ferries to go to Cavtat or Lokrum Island.
