The old city of Dubrovnik together with its harbor has always been a big pull for history and sightseeing lovers as well as good food and drink lovers. The whole city makes you feel warm and content and at ease. Beautiful architecture and lovely people. Balkan people are rumored to be rough around the edges but there is something about the sea side what makes them very welcoming and hospitable. For European cruises this is one of the most popular ports

The city harbor is at the opposite end of the Old Town from the Pile Gate. We were able to see it and its very beautiful blue water from above during our walk around the city walls. We also walked out at street level later to look around. The harbor is fairly small and the huge cruise ships stop elsewhere, so it's mainly a marina with small watercraft. There are multiple restaurants with seating out towards the harbor and nice views, although they were expensive enough that we didn't eat there, just walked around for a few minutes to see the harbor from various angles.

When we arrived by boat, we decided not to go to the old town like the crowds of tourists. 3 ships stood in the port and out on the water another 2 ships. So the city was way too crowded. Therefore, we decided to take a local taxi which shows us the most beautiful destinations in the Dubrovnik area. For 80,00 € for 2 people we were almost 2 hours on the road with our local taxi driver, who could also tell us a lot about the area and showed us the most beautiful places. The photos we were able to create here say everything. A very nice memory.

With lovely views from multiple places around the old town, Dubrovnik harbor is a beautiful and picturesque harbor. It has nice little boats filling it and making it a visual spectacle.
You can get a ferry to Lokrum island from here.
There area few restaurants located near the old harbor but a lot of these are very expensive. the best one we found was Gradska Arsenal.

We enjoyed the scenic old harbour, Dubrovnik's "city harbor" on a day trip via water taxi. It was a resplendent day perfect for walking, and walking you will do whilst touring the harbour and historic area around.
The walkway along the port and Porporela breakwater were enjoyable, and benches overlooking the sea ready to use for resting and people watching. Also, at the breakwater’s end, is a white stone monument that honours Dubrovnik’s seafaring tradition. The inscription reads “Znanje, Vjera, Srčanost” for Knowledge, Faith, Bravery.
See if you can find it.
After touring here, enjoy going to Cavtat and Mlini via water taxi as well. We did! Just avoid the Adriana.

This was my dream place to visit, after hearing from people who have visited I planned to visit.
The place is huge. When it says old town, I thought everything we see would be old days product. To my surprise it’s the buildings church’s and the history is old the rest is very modern.
Never ending treats, foods and shoppings. Even though it was extremely hot and tiering, I have gone 4 full days. Evening is totally different looks. Very beautiful.
Very safe place to walk around.
It’s very hilly city it won’t be easy, for a person with mobility issues. The wall have many many stairs and reminds me of Great Wall China.
Over all I had a great time!

No matter how many times we walked this, you never tire of the view. Stunning. Relaxing. Clean. Loved it. Anytime of the day. Stroll, sit on a bench or have a coffee. Can get windy and slightly chilly depending on time.

We visited the Old Town of Dubrovnik for a walk. Exiting Proche Gate, there is a beautiful view of the so-called Old Port. The idyllic port is home to tourist boats arriving and departing from the offshore island of Lokrum, as well as privately owned yachts. It is said to be one of the most important places in Dubrovnik's history to have built prosperity through trade based here, at the gateway to the city during the Republic of Ragusa. St. Ivan's Fortress is to the south and St. Luke's Fortress is to the north to reinforce the guard. The arched building in between was once a shipyard and now houses several restaurants.

Very pretty seaside area out one of the gates from the old city. Lots of people around eating ice cream and booking boat tours, which mostly leave from this harbor. We also saw a number of yachts anchored here. Some harborside restaurants.

The Old Harbor or City Harbor or Stara luka is a beautiful harbor in the east of the old town. Coming from Luza Square, you walk through the Ponte Gate / Vrata od Ponte to get to the quay. From here, among other things, the boats depart for day trips to Lokrum Island.

Is this harbor area handicapped accessible? I am handicapped & use an an electric mobility scooter? Would this be an area without steps so that I could access it?
Written November 24, 2019
The harbour area is flat and easily accessible for wheelchair users. The main areas of Dubrovnik are flat or have ramps so you can visit the main sites with ease. Outside of the Old Town is a little hilly as you move away from the coast.

My family of 8 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 babies are in Dubrovnik from Monday July 9th to Friday July 13th. We are looking to charter a boat for a half or full day trip. We’re not sure what our desired itinerary would be but could include points of interest, swimming or anything else. Could you let me know costs and potential itineraries you’d suggest for a day that week? Also, we would prefer a boat that had shelter for the babies to be out of the sun and possibly nap. Perhaps a catamaran style boat. Is that available?

The boats I saw you more for island hopping, glass bottom boat tours, dinner cruises, etc. They may have something like what you want but as we were in the mood for the things I mentioned above that is what we did. We paid anywhere for$12 a person to $50 a person for the things we did. It is a beautiful place. Have fun!

Is it possible to stay overnight with a sailboat in the City Harbor?

The trip costs 40 Kuna. There are regular, daily sailings from Dubrovnik Old Town’s port to the island. They sail to the Island two to four times per hour depending on season. The sailing takes just under 15 minutes.

What's the best and closest thing to do coming off a cruise ship for the day
Written July 27, 2016
Hi Rupert, we just took a stroll around the lovely old city. It was very interesting. We went into a few shops, checked out the market, went into a couple of churches & then sat down for a coffee & did some people watching. The cruise lines will bus you to the old town gates & from there you can just wander in. Not far inside you can buy tickets (expensive & only in local currency) to go up onto the city walls - as it was blowing a gale the day we were there we didn't do that. Hope you enjoy your visit.

how much is a ticket to Lokrum and how often do boats leave for the island?
