The fortress is located by Ploce gate in the eastern part of the city. It was built to provide protection from a Venetian attack. It has a bridge that goes to Ploce gate and another bridge leading into the eastern part of the old town. It has a nice terrace o the top which is excellent for views and photos of the harbour below.

We walked through the gate at the bottom of it, and really liked the way it protected the city. The wall and tower there is simply beautiful!

Firstly 'Revelin' stands over a dry moat leading to Ploce gate & constructed to protect the eastern entrance.
In 1463, the government of Dubrovnik decided a ‘'revelin’' should be erected at both entrances to the Wall ( the other being Lovrijenak ) significantly to offer protection from the might of the Ottomans.
‘'Revelin'’ is a generic name for a type of fortification with a moat around it, with the purpose of protecting the entrance to a (usually walled) settlement. Unlike every other part of the City Walls which is dedicated to (usually) a saint, the Revelin in fact has remained unnamed.
Secondly, the view from the open walled section is a great aspect for photos.
Additionally if you are dropped at the Ploce Gate it is a relatively level walk into Stradun & the lower levels of the city.

The original fort was built in 1463 but in 1538 the Senate approved the construction of a new, much stronger Revelin.
It took 11 years to build it and was finally completed in 1549.
The new Revelin became the strongest fortress of Dubrovnik, safeguarding the eastern land approach to the city and it was constructed so good that it was not harmed by the devastating earthquake of 1667.

Interesting place to walk around.
Good views from the top.
Only takes a hour or so to get around it all.
Worth a visit.

Where do i begin?
I was in dubrovnik on a vacation and went to this club on two occasions, and lets say it was terrible.

The bar staff are very unfriendly and rude. They try to scam you on change and drinks. The club is always full of drunk, rude, pathetic brits who are smashed and dont know how to behave. The second time i went was because of my friends and i regreted it more than the first time.

I understand that staff cant control the behaviour of patrons, but they cant control bar staff being rude and stealing from customers by way of short changing them( saw it on 3 occasions and the argument that ensued with the customers).

Sad part is, that its the only club in town.

Inside the fortress is a hall which is sometimes used for concerts. We were lucky enough to buy tickets for a performance by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra in this small venue. Tickets were priced at 50, 75 and 100 KN and there were only about 200 available.
The night we went there were about eight short pieces with the soloists all being young, local, budding musicians. The evening started at eight and lasted about 90 minutes - perfect for some of the younger members of the audience which appeared mostly to comprise family and friends of the soloists. Although a classical concert, there was something for everyone with some well known pieces such as an exert from Mendelssohn's violin concerto, a personal favourite of mine.
If you can catch one of their summer concerts, this orchestra is really worth seeing.

We visited the archaeological museum in this building to duck out of a rain shower. It was part of the combined ticket we'd purchased, so good value for our ticket. However, the museum itself is tiny, only a few rooms with a few artefacts in them. Still interesting, of course, but doesn't take much time at all to go around.

The Old Town wall has a different fortress at each corner and Fort Revelin is on the SE corner at Ploce Gate. If arriving by taxi, Ploce Gate may be your best option as you can avoid much of the tour bus traffic that enter on at Pile Gate on the north side of Old Town. The only fortress that is available without having to walk the wall, plus Fort Revelin also provides nice views of the harbor and St. John Fort on the other side of the harbor. Whether or not you arrive here by taxi, you definitely want to take the time visit this fort. The area is more open than the other forts and a bit more relaxed with the nice harbor view.

The place is a typical place where they lure young people in, then pressure them to spend money. The waiters were very pushy on getting us to order drinks and on several occasions we were told not to stand by tables unless we bought drinks as they were reserved for those who did. Steer away from this money grabbing shitfest of a nightclub designed to scam young people..
