About
The atmosphere on Lopud Island is peaceful and relaxing, in part due to absence of cars on the island. Grab yourself a buggy taxi to the Sunj sand beach, or opt for a scenic half an hour walk. Relax in a hammock sipping on a cocktail, before checking out the restaurants, bakeries, and souvenir shops along the promenade. Lopud Island is often visited as part of a three-island tour, or as a day trip via ferry from Dubrovnik. For the best weather, time your visit between June and September. – Tripadvisor

- SWH100Cardiff, United Kingdom1,727 contributionsStunning islandVisited here as part of the three islands cruise. We had about 3 hours on this island and it wasn’t nearly long enough. When we arrived we paid for a golf buggy trip down to the beach, which was an adventure in itself. They are petrol ones and went pretty fast. We had an amazing few hours at the stunning beach before heading back to explore the harbour area. It is absolutely beautiful. I wished we had more time, but I loved every min of it.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 11, 2023
- TravellerclassFarnham, United Kingdom1,197 contributionsLovely Lopud. We loved visiting Lopud Island and spent a day relaxing and taking in the atmosphere. It was sad to see the old "Grand Hotel" basically damaged and unused for over 30 years. It must have been a fantastic place to stay here before the conflict war of 1991. It is a vast building with superb grounds and we walked past it on our way to Sunj Beach. The trip for Gruz harbour to Lopud takes approximately 1 hour as it makes one other island stop off on the way. There are so many bars/eating areas and the island itself is steeped in history and culture. I would say certainly visit during your breakaway.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 15, 2024
- Sharon BNottingham, United Kingdom91 contributionsBeautiful island but watch the sand fliesThis is a beautiful island but to get to the best beach you can either walk 35 mins or you can take a buggy 3euros each each way. There are plenty of Restraunts and bars. Not lots of shelter apart from bars so when it’s 30oC a half hour walk is gruelling. Watch out for Sand flies as I got eaten alive whilst lying in the beach and don’t normally get insect bites. The great thing is there are 2 sandy beaches which is rare in Dubrovnik as they are mainly pebbled beaches. Worth a trip but adding 6euros each for buggy and queuing is not idealVisited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 14, 2024
- sofiaohashiSao Paulo, SP55 contributionsLopud IslandLopud is one of the 3 inhabited islands of Elaphite Islands, and it is pretty and with many shops and some restaurants. It has a very old and restored Franciscan monastery, it is worth a beautiful photo. It is also where there is a beach of about 1.2 km length that is sandy (Sunj Beach) and not pebbles like almost all other beaches in Dubrovnik. The beach is pretty dirty, reminds even some beaches of Brazil... Worth a visit.Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 16, 2024

The hotel (RMH LOPUD LAFODIA) is great, the views in every room are amazing. If you want to read a book and do nothing, this place is for you! There are no cars of any sort on the island, you walk everywhere, which was lovely. The pool is good and not overcrowded, there are only two beaches on the island!! There are about six restaurants! Five of them cater for top end clients. If your're bring your family get ready! The cheapest meal was 100Euros the most expensive 240EUROS!! We went to Dubrovnik for the day. We booked the catamaran ferry from the port, it was only 30Euros for four people for a day return! it was fabulous! Lots of history to learn about here. Far and away the best thing we did was, book a sunset kayack trip from the hotel. We met Mlandin, who was lovely. He told us all about the island and took us to the best spot to see the sunset... you must do this!! - Pauline P9 contributionsOasis of calmThe island was beautiful tranquil and calm. There were lots of lovely sandy areas for safe swimming along from the jetty. Many places to eat and drink right at the waters edge. Two supermarkets, a bakery and an ATM. We walked out to the viewing point and watched the sunset. We visited Sunj beach on a Sunday by golf buggy for €3 per person each way which was the opposite side of the island but it was very busy, full of sun beds and loud music and not what we wanted. We stayed at Pansion Tereza which had a beautiful balcony overlooking the bay. We would love to return to Lopud. - WaddlerYork, United Kingdom12,546 contributions5 night stayLopud is often visited as a day trip, but we stayed for 5 nights. It was better than we expected - for a start it has the best sandy beach in the region (accessible via a hilly 2km walk each way or a 3 euro golf buggy ride) with other smaller sandy beaches on the settlement side. But the settlement is also pretty (aside from the one big resort hotel) with lots of waterfront places to eat. There are also various walking paths on the island, including up to a fortress on a scenic hill. Its a chilled out place to spend a few days. The first ferries from Dubrovnik show up at around 11am, so its quieter before that. It is pricey though. The small "supermarket" is outrageously expensive. Restaurants are pretty pricey too.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 3, 2024

Our yacht dropped us here for lunch at Obala and so we had a walk around after lunch in-and-around the harbour.. there is a botanical garden, black art horizon pavilion, small art gallery, & small grocery and souvenir shops (ATM available). Nice for a lazy sunny walk with an ice cream after lunch.
We didn't try the sandy beaches.. small and crowded, and we had been touring beaches already from the boat. You can hire sunbeds and sun parasols... and the sign said that they come with a shower!

By far the best beach encountered in Croatia. Sand beach which is clean. You can get there by taking ferryboat from Dubrovnik at 10:00 AM. From the Lopud village to the beach one could walk 500 meters. Then take the riksja (20 kuna per person). Rental of two sunbeds and umbrella is expensive (300 kuna) and I would recommend only if you spend a full day. In close vicinity of the beach is a good restaurant.

On a 3 Island Tour, we visited Lopud. With a long/short stay of 2 and a half hours we looked around for a beach. As promised, Sunj beach was across the Island. Too hot to walk and not enough time for a really nice return walk with a swim in between. Golf buggies will help for a fee. On the beach, Sun beds and umbrellas are priced at full day rate, knowing full well most customers are travelling through and need a maximum of 1 hour. I have to admit. Lovely beach. Disappointed in costs…not really worth it..

My three island tour landed first on Lopud by the huge new hotel. People were adviced to walk over the valley to another beach, but I chose to remain for coffee at the idyllic harbour restaurant. There was a pebble beach with clear water for swimming distance undisturbed after which I went sightseeing. The concrete ruins of the Yugoslavia era Grand hotel were quite impressive, this kind of socialist brutalism in architecture is vanishing from Croatian shores to be replaced by shining new palaces. I picked some fresh rosemary from the abandonded historical garden next to it.

That was the only sand beach I saw in Croatia. It's very nice, but you won't want to spend all day there. If you are going as part of a bigger tour, you'll enjoy it for sure. They offer 'golf cart taxi' from the port to the beach and they charge 20kn. You can also walk but it is about 25min. The main part of the island is also very nice with some shops and restaurants. I would recommend buying things in the main beach. On the sand beach it's very overpriced.

Beautiful island, forget the expensive trip to Lokrum island and go here instead on the local ferry for a fraction of the price. Gorgeous beaches, a bustling esplanade, and lots of places to eat, some more expensive than others. Nice walks around the wooded interior with amazing views, and you can visit Sunj beach (very crowded and noisy) if that's your thing. We spent a week on the island and didn't want to leave!

This island was amazing, end of season stay and clearly a year round quiet spot- except midday when the passing boats stop off! If you want a relaxing break on a beautiful island you can't go wrong. Ljubos' cocktails @ glauouic (a rustic hotel by the small beach) are the best on the island but you'd easily miss its a bar. Croatia is expensive and lopud is no exception but we found konoba riva a good restaurant, the ferry is good value to get you there for a day trip from dubrovinik and the people are very welcoming!

Written November 10, 2018
Trygt for foreldre, kanskje litt kjedelig for 16-åringen.

My husband and I are off to Lopud this Saturday morning, and I wondered if anyone new if we have to Pre-book the ferry across, or whether we can just turn up and book one from a kiosk? I know where I can Pre-book the ferry, I just don’t want to be confined to timings!
Written September 10, 2018
No need to book in advance. You can just be there half an hour before and buy the tickets. Keep some time in hand finding the kiosk might take a bit of your time.

I'm going to Lopud and am wondering how much a basic meal costs on the island. Also is there a cash machine on the island?
Written August 21, 2018
Hi,
Yes there are cash machines in the town.
But you can always pick up cash while coming from Dubrovnik. Meal at the island is quite reasonable i.e. as you get down from the ferry and walk into the town center. Meals at the beach are little expensive. So better to pack a picnic.
Enjoy the enchanting beach.

Thinking of spending a week here in September are there bars and restaurants to eat in other than the hotel we looking at .also how far from debrovnic is the boat journey
Written July 23, 2018
We saw several restaurants but be careful as some did not accept credit cards so cash was required. Less than an hour by boat from Dubrovnik and a lovely place to spend some time.
Written July 31, 2018
Hi
Can anyone advise if it Is safe to swim on the harbour side of the island?
Thanks
Written July 7, 2018
Yes it is safe, but please make sure you are sensible and swim within the normal protected areas which are clearly marked out!
