We stopped at this popular 7 lake area totaling 341 acres on our trip from Split to Ploce. The recent rains have raised the level of its pristine fresh water above normal. It a pretty area for boating or paddle surfing in season.

Paddle surfing tour is a great opportunity to see local culture and rich diversity of flora and fauna around seven Baćina Lakes and the delta of the Neretva river. Canals, swamps, fisherman's villages and things you will never see if you travel by the roads through Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

The lakes are peaceful and not crowded. The scenery is dramatic with the mountains surrounding the lakes. There is a bar which serves drinks and ice creams. The water is lovely to swim in.

We had read the blurb so made the detour when driving from Split to Dubrovnik.
"Explore the several picturesque lakes by boat safari or by paddling your own canoe. Swim at some of the hidden lagoons in the crystal clear water. It is possible to hike or bike all the way around the lakes.

Unfortunately reality was nothing like my research had implied! Bacina Lakes was hard to find and we drove down several back roads that were very very bumpy! until we found the cafe / activity centre seen in others photos. When we arrived everything was closed up. We had a little wander around to see some of those wonderful views I'd read about... but didn't see anything that special. Yes it was a grey day, but I would not recommend a visit here for views (see photos).

During our break from surf paddling in the Bacina Lakes, Ivan introduced us to his 'cousin' who runs trips around the lakes in a boat he had single handedly rebuilt. I can't begin to describe the fun we had and the sights we saw while touring the lakes for about 2 hours. Firstly before we left he insisted that we sample his home made alcohol and then entertained us with his stories of his life etc. etc. We stopped at a place where we were able to have a swim and for some of the passengers to indulge in a mud bath as there was an abundance of the natural resource in a shallow part of the lake..... healing properties no doubt! Without going on too much about it.... I would definitely, definitely recommend this service. Unfortunately I don't have his contract details as I've misplaced them (probably because I was too drunk after drinking his alcohol) but he is a well known character in the area and easily found. For what he charges I can only think it's a labour of love for him as its so cheap. Really give it a go.. you won't be disappointed i can assure you.

These lakes are just beautiful. Although trip-advisor says that this is in Dubrovnik it's not quite so. You have more then 100 km from the center of Dubrovnik to the Bacina lakes. They are in fact near the town of Ploče, which is on the road if you are going from Split to Dubrovnik (or vice versa) for example. But they are surely worth the trip. And you can spent the whole day walking around the lakes. The lakes have a path mostly around all the lakes. Best way to enjoy them is by a bike or canoe I would say. They are somehow still a hidden jewel, so you will rarely see any tourists around here, I cant explain why this is so still. You can see a bunch of birds, frogs and fish. I even saw a turtle and a snake. Not to worry not the venoms kind. There are maps on the macadam road that surrounds the lakes, but there is a little risk of going astray anyway. Would recommend to any of my nature loving friends.

Just off main road, north of Ploce. Natural lakes, excellent place for swimming (clean and warm if needs negotiating reeds and not many natural beach locations) Quiet from tourists. There are also boat and paddle surf options here to be booked.

We spent a superb afternoon with Ivan, paddle boarding from one lake to another. The scenery was just stunning, so quiet and tranquil. Ivan was friendly and knowledgeable and put us all at ease. Would highly recommend this activity, we are a family (kids aged 11, 15 and 17) and each one of us thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hi, what is the Cafe called? Is it easy to find? Will it be open in early April?

We are hoping to visit Ploce in June. We will arrive by bus from Dubrovnik. Can anyone tell us if there are taxis out to Bacina Lakes? I seem to remember reading somewhere there are no taxis in Ploce which seems strange. If no taxis what alternative form of transport would we have to go to Ploce or to the bus station there when we leave as it seems to be a 2 to 3 km walk so with luggage a bit far
