- BMishraNew York City, New York56 contributionsNice little hike reachable from the Old CityWe had an enjoyable time hiking up to the top from the old city. A good excuse to get some exercise to burn off some of the lobster pasta and wine from the night before. The trailhead is a little tricky to find. There is nothing particular to see on the hike itself but the views are great, particularly at the top of the old city. On the steeper side but it’s quick.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 18, 2024
- Brooklet425Staunton, Virginia299 contributionsEnjoyable HikeWe took a taxi to the top to visit the Homeland War Museum, and then we walked back down. It was a nice, enjoyable walk with beautiful views of the city. It's a well maintained path and if you're interested in religious attractions, the Stations of the Cross are displayed on the whole path. I wouldn't go out of my way to do this hike, but if you're looking for a great opportunity to photograph the city from above then it's a perfect place to do that.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 18, 2024
- ispeakinsongsCirencester, United Kingdom638 contributionsStunningWe walked up and down the mountain, it took one hour to go up and a bit less to go down. Don’t waste your money on the cable cars if you are moderately fit. It’s a stunning walk with stunning views. Toilets and cafe at the top as well as the fun sky bike (£30 a ticket).Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 3, 2024
- Ben FBloomington, Indiana1,827 contributionsMany Trails with Sweeping ViewsWhether you arrive via cable car, walk on foot, or taxi/rideshare, Mount Srd will provide nearly half a day of enjoyment if you let it. The restaurant by the cable car station has great food, the station itself offers stunning overlooks of Old Town Dubrovnik, and several hiking trails branch out in various places across the peak, which is surprisingly quite flat. My electric wheelchair could handle most of the major trails, but they are made with gravel and dirt, so it’s definitely bumpy and risky. One of the trails leads to a horseback riding course or farm of some sort, although I didn’t visit it.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten April 5, 2024
- Christelle C6 contributionsGreat experienceTook the cable car up to the top where the views are absolutely amazing! Walked back down, well worth doing! Took us an hour. - mahatinu276 contributionsGreat views but think carefully about how to go up and how to come downThere are some great views from the top of Mount Srd. You just need to think carefully about how you get there, and how you get back. We took the number 17 bus from Pile Gate to Bosanka (2 Euros per person fare) and then walked up from there. This wasn't too bad, and certainly easier than trying to hike up all the way from Pile. However, being a weekend the 17 bus wasn't doing the return trip down, so we had to figure out another route down. We chose to hike down, but regretted it afterwards. It's a rocky path, and doable but with hot weather and a slight foot niggle before we started it was a difficult trek. We wished we had taken the cable car down. So our main advice for Mount Srd is worth doing for the views, but think carefully about how you go up and how you go down.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 19, 2024
- クマのぷーさんSNagoya, Japan333 contributionsNow that there are no Chinese groups around, I would recommend taking the ropeway rather than a taxi. This is the place to take photos. You can't miss this place when sightseeing in Dubrovnik. I went there by taxi with 8 people from my cruise group, and the driver stopped at the photo spot and took our photos for us, which was fine, but then he charged us more. We refused, but he kept charging us. We actually wanted to take the ropeway, but it was occupied by a group of Chinese people and we couldn't get on.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 20, 2024
- Charlotte F19 contributionsNice experience! The view is beautiful. It’s a perfect spot to watch the sunset and we weren’t the only ones who had the idea. The atmosphere was very friendly. On the other hand, the place was not very interesting for walking once we reached the summit. The main attraction is really the panorama of Dubrovnik and the islands and mountains on the other side. The price to go up with the cable car is exorbitant. Take advantage of an attraction like the sunset to stay for at least an hour. Otherwise, apart from a restaurant, a zip line and the view, there is not much to do. Or, you have to do the hike to access Mt. (But this one is in full sun for a good part of the day)Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 29, 2024
- LaureenpeBrussels, Belgium69 contributionsGo up by cable car and go down on footBeautiful view of Dubrovnik. We went up by cable car and went down on foot. The hike is nice until old Dubrovnik (allow 6km to go down to the port). Once at the top the view is splendid but nothing else to do except have a drink or wait for the sunset. Be careful, the path is very stony (it is a Stations of the Cross after all!), quite steep for non-walkers and rather long. We saw people climbing in tap shoes or small sneakers, even their feet (if there weren't any sprains), it's a bit crazy because there is still a 400m difference in altitude and the biggest portion is in the sun. On the other hand, the descent is worth the detour for the walk but the same, watch out for stones, its slippery in places.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024
- Jocelyne LStrasbourg, France286 contributionsBeautiful walk with a magnificent view! After paying the 35€ for the ramparts we no longer wanted to pay the 27€ for the return trip by cable car, so we went there on foot and we didn't regret it. You still need to be in relatively good shape (without being athletes). The hardest part is climbing the stairs to the road, after that the zig zag Stations of the Cross are easier, and the views are magnificent, the best I have had in Dubrovnik. It took us almost 1h30 to get there from the ramparts, and almost 1h to return, taking the time to take photos. Nothing special at the top, it's more the path and the views than the destination in itself. There is the war museum at the top (we arrived too late) I absolutely recommendVisited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 6, 2024

My friend and I opted for different routes for getting up Mount Srd. Both of us agreed that the view from the top was five stars and worth seeing. My friend took the very expensive cable car (160 kn for a return) and said whilst it was a fun experience it was 3.5 minutes either way so price per minute is pretty extortionate! That said, he was happy with his decision and would do it again. I decided to walk up from the Old Town, which was a harder walk than I’d anticipated and very warm (I set off at 2.30pm). It took about 40 mins in total. It started with going up the city steps then across two dual carriageways before the proper walking trail started. I’d recommend wearing trainers or walking boots as the path is quite uneven under foot. I decided to get the cable car back down so we could fit in other sights so hadn’t saved much money from my adventure but enjoyed the sense of achievement!

You can’t visit Dubrovnik and skip this place, that would be soooo wrong! The view is breathtaking and amazing and you can’t describe the beauty of the view once when you are up there. You can access there by a cable car, by walk or by car. I would recommend the last option - by the car. It is free and there is a lot of parking space when you come there. Also there is Panorama restaurant with the view. If you want to visit Panorama restaurant I would like to recommend you to make a reservation and require a place by the fence. The best part of the day to visit this restaurant is for dinner or early dinner for sunset.

First we went by Cable Car to the top of Mount Srd and the view was amazing. The next day we went by car and the road up is a true roller coaster because of the road and the view at the same time. We stopped a bit before we reached the Cable Car station at the top and we had an incredible view of the sunset, the old town of Dubrovnik and the islands in the area. It is worth going every sunset of your stay! It’s a shame my photos cannot reveal the true emotions you get up there!
Must do!

Fantastic views out over the city and surrounding countryside. I would highly recommend giving yourself at least an hour to go to the museum and watching the archive footage of the effects of the Homeland war on the city and people of Dubrovnik. A do not miss spot on your Dubrovnik visit

We hiked up at around 8:00am at end of August and down around 10am.
Getting to the trail:
Quite hard to find the start of the trail. If coming from Ploce direction, do not allow google maps to guide you along “Jadranska cesta” as it is a very busy road with no pavement. Follow side streets under Jadranska cesta and then cut straight up to reach the path, which is marked by a large brown signpost.
It takes around 15-20 minutes from the Old Town to the start of the trail.
The trail itself:
It took us about 35 minutes to walk up, going quite quickly. Allow an hour to go slower and take photos etc. The trail is not that steep and there are 14 turns marked by numbered monuments. However, the trail is set on loose rocks so definitely wear closed toe shoes, not sandals.
Timing:
We would recommend doing this early as most of the trail is directly in the sun. Going early also decreases the chance of seeing snakes.
The top:
Bring lots of water as there is none at the top unless you go to the expensive restaurant.
Gorgeous views, but views are actually better on the walking path as the top has annoying metal railings!

Our stop in Dubrovnik was truly special, and the views spectacular, and there's no better view from above in Dubrovnik than Mount Srd. Accessible by hike (which I would not recommend as the path is poorly maintained and very uncomfortable underfoot) or by cable car, Mount Srd offers breathtaking views of the Old City, the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, and the numerous islands.
After taking in the view we felt the desire for a bit of adventure and decided to book onto a Buggy Safari tour with Dubrovnik Buggy Adventure - a 35 minute off-road tour taking you through the mountain and woodland finishing with more astounding 360° views. The tour is at a cost of €40 per person; however, if you have the time and the stamina, you're able to access the viewpoints on foot.

Beautiful view of the bay and the elaphite islands.
Zoo can choose taxi option or cable car, both more proffered than riding yourself. 😉
Take a look at the Fort Imperial as well and learn of recent war history of Dubrovnik and Croatia

The view over Dubrovnik and Old Town is incredible. The price for the 5 minute cable car is 200 kuna (up more than 40% from 2021 to 2022) which is definitely not worth it. An uber from downtown to the top is 64 kuna.

At a height of 400 meters above sea level, this mountain provides some amazing views of the city. The best time to visit is around sunset. You can view the sunset from the top of the French fort there. It's not a well known spot and you will have great views. You can take the cable car up and down again. It can get pretty crowded and costs 27 EUR for a round trip ticket. Alternatively, you can hike up and enjoy the view on the way up. There are mainly two routes, the switch back route and the longer more gradual way up. Best to use google maps or some other app to navigate. It's pretty easy to do that way. I did that, then took the cable car down for 15 EUR one way. Of course, you could also take a taxi, uber or even e-tuktuk. Either way, you shouldn't miss it.

There is a hiking trail that starts at the highest road above the old town. We’ve heard it’s hard to find, but we didn’t think so. The problem is that this road does not have a sidewalk, though. It’s possible to walk at the very edge by foot but it’s not pleasant.
Also mind that if you start from the old town going by foot, you’ll have gone up a significant amount of the mountain before you even arrive at the beginning of the trail - so the hiking trail itself might ‘only’ take 50 minutes, but you might already be a little out of breath when you arrive at the beginning. (You could definitely take an Uber to the start of the trail.)
The hike itself is actually fine, just make sure to bring a lot of water and come either very early or later in the day. You won’t have any shade for most of it.
On top, there is a restaurant at which we had something to drink - it’s very expensive, though (an ice tea is 50kn, almost 7€). We really needed to sit down and have a cold drink after the hike, so keep that in mind if you want to go, since there is only this one restaurant up there and no other comfortable places to sit down in the shade.
We hiked back down on the other side. To do that, you just walk along the road to a little town called Bosanka, from there, there’s a trail back down towards the old town. You’ll get great views of the old town from the other direction. I think this is much nicer than walking back down the same way.

Hi, The path was fine for me just very rocky/uneven in places when i was there but I took my time and it was ok. As others have said it is a gradual incline so not that noticeable. There are also seats at each curve in the path once on the main part so you can rest and take photos. beautiful views ! Also do it early in the day if possible. The first part of the way is shaded by trees and cool however once on the main path there is NO shade at all so be prepared with water ,hat and sunscreen. I ate at the restaurant at the top and didn't think it overly expensive . Food was very good and staff very pleasant .. was able to sit , relax and enjoy the views. Hope this helps. Enjoy

Would a 50cc moped get up the goat path to the summit? Staying in Cavtat next year and want to go up Mount Srd for sunset for some nice photos. Don't fancy driving a hire car up there as it looks pretty tight and the last ferry back from Dubrovnik is at 8pm which kinda rules out the cable car (unless I get a taxi back) so I'm thinking of hiring a moped for a couple of days.
Thanks
Written December 14, 2018
Hi there, I personally wouldn't ride a moped up there but if you OK with heights go for it! The roads are pretty rough in places but you might be able to zip past on a moped.
Written December 14, 2018
Would it be okay to walk down the mountain after dark? We want to see the sunset from up top and want to hike back down afterwards but don't know if it will be too dark to see where we are walking. We do not have a very powerful flashlight either.
Written October 13, 2018
Personally i think it would be dangerous. I think there is a rough path down but wouldnt know whether it was safe in pitch dark as it's quite rocky terrain and high up. I'm sure the cable car would be the safer bet.

We did the walk today (25/07/2018) and I recommend it rather than put people of it. At a relatively slow pace, it took us 90 minutes to walk up and 60 minutes to walk down. It will be quicker if it is not a blistering hot day.
Wear soft shoes and not sandles. Carry a litre of water. Stop to take in the views or to catch your breath.
Other people have talked about taking a bus to where the route starts but we walked from where the cable car starts. The route below is the easiest available to get you to where the walking trail starts.
Walk away from where the cable car starts. You will walking on Zabrebacka Street and you will walking against the flow of traffic. Continue up Zabrebacka Street until you reach the second set of steps going up. You are now at Ivana Mazuranica Street.
Climb the stairs until you reach the main road. Cross at the pedestrian crossing and go up the next set of stairs. This is Od Kriza Street. Halfway up, you will reach a “Y” section. Go left.
When you reach the next road, the entrance to the tunnel will be on your right. Cross the road and go to the stairs in the middle of the road.
Cross the next road and you will at the start of the hiking trail.
Take care and enjoy.
