This was our second visit to Dubrovnik but our first time on the Dubrovnik Cable Car and we thought that the views made it a worthwhile visit. We were staying elsewhere and planned our trip to the city on a day when the cruise ship numbers were low (check the internet) so when we turned up around 10am the queue to ascend the cable car was small. Tickets are 170 kuna (approx £20) per adult for a return journey and can be purchased using cash or credit card at the ticket office. The cable cars were fairly busy but not packed in our experience however if you want a view towards the sea when onboard you will need to be quick to secure your place. Everyone gets to see the view at the top in any case so don't stress. The immediate viewing areas were very busy with people queing to descend and those taking photos. We took the opportunity to get some coffee and cake with a seat and a super view by visiting the Panorama Restaurant terrace. Very pleasant service and 176 kuna (£21) for the experience which was worth it in our opinion. Beyond the Restaurant terrace, go left if looking towards the sea, and you'll come upon a huge cross and flagpole and find that the surrounding area has viewpoints without any structures or visitors to obscure your photos. In the opposite direction from the Restaurant there are the remains of the Napoleonic Fort Imperial which also houses the Homeland War Museum which is worth a visit. For 30 kuna (£3.50) per adult you can see many artifacts from the 1991 siege of Dubrovnik in the war between Croatia and it's neighbours and a video on a loop has extracts in English from the time of news reports, etc. Overall we enjoyed the visit to Mount Srd and took the easy alternative to the long walk (or short drive - yes, there is plenty of parking).

We have visited Dubrovnik for 3 days during August and this was the 3rd attraction on my list after the city walls and The Fort Lovrijenac. The ticket is quite expensive (23 euro or 160 kuna for a return trip) but he views from the top are priceless mostly if you get there before sunset. There is a souvenir shop at the top and also a restaurant but prices were even higher than those of the shops and restaurants inside the city walls. From the top you can see the islands surrounding DBV and also the city walls but the best thing remains the sunset far in the distance the sun is dissapearing behind The Croatian Islands and the view is stunning. You can also enjoy the sunset arriving here by car but we did not want to wake our car up after driving thousands of kms to get here. It was surprising to see so many people taking the cable car during a time when less tourists were visiting Dubrovnik.

Great view of Dubrovnik and surrounding area on a clear day. Best viewing time is at sunset and you can have a coffee or drink while you are at the top. Check the pricing... if you are on a budget one can hike up and down the steep hill.
