A pier located in the eastern extremity of the old city. Quite crowded, lots of people going to the beach or swimming. Some are fishing, some even play with the ball.
There is a tiny bar but the one who should serve there probably spends more time in the sea, swimming.
It doesn't seem like the most suitable place for staying at the beach, it's just concrete and stone everywhere. But it is a place that offers a beautiful view of the old port and its adjacent area.

The construction of modern Porporela breakwater started in 1873 but it was mentioned already in the 13th century. Besides serving it's primal function, from early on Porporela has been a favourite promenade and a place of first romantic meetings and kisses. At the end of the pier proudly stands the red lighthouse and next to it a wind rose made of stone. In the middle of Porporela there is a large stone in the ground that has the following inscription: this stone that weighs 3159 kilograms was thrown out of the sea by a storm in 25th of February 1879.
Whether you'd like to relax or be active, Porporela has it all. Besides water polo you can shoot some hoops, play cards, mini football and a local sport called "nogotenis" that's similar to tennis but instead of a racket you play with your legs and feet (basically any body part besides arms and hands). The locals are welcoming anyone who'd like to give it a try ;)
In the deep shade at the base of the St. John's fort there is a lounge area and a small bar where you can get refreshments. The bar offers coffee, fresh juices, ice cream and cooled drinks that help survive the hot summer days in Dubrovnik. In the evening it's a favourite place where the locals and tourists like to gather and enjoy a good glass of wine or cocktail.
There is something for everyone in Porporela no matter if you'd like to spend your vacation actively or just lying down in the sun and watch the world sail by...
