I love to go to aquarium whenever we travel somewhere, but this was honestly the worst place I have ever been to, I don’t usually leave reviews but I felt like people needed to know not to support this place and give your money to these people.
The aquarium is tiny and for £7 each there is not much to see.
The animals were in the tiniest and dirties pools/aquariums I have ever seen.

This aquarium is unbelievable, carved into the historic City Walls of Dubrovnik, Croatia the Akvarij features marine life indicative of the Mediterranean. This facility is “Friend of the Seas” certified due to sustainable practices and meticulous care of the honorable wildlife housed within; clean, stocked tanks provide a glimpse at protected species both familiar and strange offering insight into the beauty and importance of what lies beneath in a friendly, cool, quiet and stunning environment. I am in tears as I reflect on my moments spent with these playful, mesmerizing and silly creatures. Excellent displays and well thought-out signage… i recommend getting lost on Lokrum Island then hitting the Akvarij!

About 30 tala with local species, many we hadn’t seen anywhere else. Set in the historic walls it is a good place for children and adult. Allow 30-60 minutes for your visit

Bad bad bad. Turtle is in HORRIFIC conditions. Alone, limited space and nothing whatsoever to satisfy basic needs. DO NOT GO!! This needs to be shut down, the same could be said for the octopus many other fish / crabs. I CRIED!! Awful

Beautiful aquarium in a stunning location. Signs indicated it was connected to a local university and that the funds went to supporting the local sea-life. Knowing this made it well worth the price in our opinion.

I love aquariums so I stopped in while in town. This is a small well kept aquarium in a great architectural setting. The price was reasonable and it was an enjoyable experience. If you like aquariums and are in the area, it is worth a short visit.

We only visited this place as we had been caught out in the rain. Its small but this is reflected in the price.
It lacks a bit, it needs a bit of easy updating like having more signs at each tanks telling you about what's in there, it could be a very good educational place if updated, as the water around dubrovnik are so clear teach people why it is that way.
I felt sorry for the octopus that's in a small tanks and had no where to hide from kids tapping on the glass, it tried to push off from the side to swim but could only go one body length.

We saw the poor reviews but wanted to get our own opinion. The aquarium is not great and needs improving a lot, the tanks are small and it seems they are not making the most of the space they have. The tanks appear to be very dirty and not a lot of enrichment for the animals.

I do hope the owners or managers take on board the reviews and try to improve this aquarium as it could be so much better if there was more effort put into it.

It is sad to see some of these animals especially the turtle in a plain pool and not very large.

On the right hand side of the harbour next to St John's Fortress, there is a passage way which promises you an aquarium at the other side.

What we found was a fairly depressing selection of fish - and a rare turtle (more later) - wedged into a dingey, cavernous space underneath the harbour wall.

Once you have parted with your 30KN to the joyless fishwife at the desk, you can wander into a fairly darkly lit hall containing three pools, two of which had a shoal of fish which were literally packed in like sardines.

Perhaps most surprisingly - and depressing exhibit on site - was the pool which contained an endangered Loggerhead Turtle.

Signs all around the two rooms of this martime disaster ask visitors not to use flash photography. Very noble thought for the welfare of the creatures there, but on our afternoon at Dubrovnik Aquarium, it appeared that the staff were not that bothered about that fairly basic rule being enforced! Today, she was more concerned with her nails, her magazine and keeping out those terrible tourists who had paid the ticket price but wished to use the facilities before leaving.

Many of the tanks were dirty, the signs hopelessly out of date and left us feeling rather bad that we had donated 30KN each to extend the life of this sorry excuse for an aquarium.

Avoid avoid avoid!! Ye have been warned!

Now, I can't profess to know the mood of a fish. Fish, as I'm sure you are aware, are rather blank in their expressions; so I cannot say all the fish looked down in the dumps, or hopelessly miserable; because, let's face it, almost all fish look down in the dumps or hopelessly miserable.
Nor, can I judge the happiness of a fish based on its swimming patterns; who can tell if a fish likes to swim in circles or not? I certainly cannot.
Nor can I tell if a stingray is happy without its barb. Perhaps the removal of its barb came as a great relief; "thank goodness I do not have to carry around this darn barb anymore," thinks the stingray.
Nor do I know if a turtle likes to live in a pool low on oxygen; maybe said turtle likes a low oxygen environment, pleased with the hallucinogenic high it has afforded him.

All I know is this - if I lived in this dirty, dank, grotty little place, my legs removed, somebody with a pillow over my face, I'd ask the person with the pillow to press harder.
