We booked this class for the last day of our honeymoon, and its really a pity we did not do more tours with The Art of Wine. Andrea is very knowable and finds here way around the green market. We tasted various types of local delicacies but highlight was cheese tasting from local farmers. Pecorino style cheese is a hidden gem! The cooking class was very hand on with fish and pasta making. Highly recommended!

Our Split Area Wine Tour (Art of Wine Tour) was arranged for us by Mladen from Funky Zagreb. Our private guide/sommelier, Srdan, (pronounced Sir John) picked us up near our apartment. He was a very pleasant, funny and informative guide, and we enjoyed the time we spent with him. We were then taken to a vineyard, where we met Anton, the winemaker and sipped some Rose on his new custom built terrace overlooking the vineyards. He brought us into the vineyards while discussing the history of the zinfandel grape. Next we went down to his winery, learned more about his winemaking and then into the cellar where a table was set for us with prosciutto, cheeses and olive oil to enjoy while we tasted some wonderful reds. This was a wonderful experience to have the wine maker personally lead you through a tasting of his still maturing Zinfandels.
We were then transported to a second winery to sample more great wine with food pairings. The hosts at both wineries were very generous with their pours. Finally we were than taken for a home-cooked meal at a farmhouse in the country, again with more wine. The owner had an interesting collection of items around the house. This was a wonderful, enjoyable wine tour. Srdan has put together a wonderful wine tour where you can experience Croatian wines in such intimate settings. I would highly recommend this tour.

This wine tour was one of our most favorite activities while in Split. Coming from the Napa Valley area, we thought we had experienced good winery tours, but Croatian wine makers put the US guys to shame! Come hungry, they told us, but we didn't heed that advice, having just had lunch...mistake! We were met in front of our hotel by Srdjan, one of the owners, and driven a short distance to a small winemaker's home in the Kastela region, just outside of Split. The very friendly wine maker, Anton, poured us full glasses of his four different vintages, accompanied by huge platters of breads, cheeses and olives. When we finished our glasses, he just opened more bottles and put them at our tables to have as much as we wanted. After about and hour and a half, we were driven to a second winery, where we were first greeted with a small serving of the local Rakija, and then seated at a table in his home for the wine and food pairings. While the wines were great, it was the food that was amazing. The winemaker is also a chef and served us a full 3-course meal with our wines. We ended the tour back at the Art of Wine shop for a final tasting of whatever wine we still hadn't tries...So gracious, so friendly - just an unforgettable time!

We first journeyed to Putalj winery north of Split. Our host, Tino, was super friendly and very knowledgeable about wines, Croatian culture, and Croatian food. We drank one bottle of Rose Zinfandel at the vineyard on top of the mountain to start which was very tasty. The owner of the vineyard, Anton, was very professional and informative about his wines and was also a great host. I am writing this review immediately afterwards, approximately 2 1/2 bottles of wine just by myself I drink... From the vineyard, we toured the actual winery where we sampled quite a number of Putalj wines. Afterwards, we then enjoyed more wine in the cellar of Putalj winery where we indulged in prosciutto, fine cheeses, bread, olive oil made by Anton, where we laughed and made good company. I thought we were done at this point, but through Art of Wine only, we journeyed to our second winery called Vuina winery where we enjoyed more wine tasting accompanied by a delicious Croatian homemade pasta dish, more cheese, candy oranges and almonds, home grown olives and olive oil. Altogether, this was a huge experience for what we paid for! Every one was professional and nice. If you are more cultured about your wines, the hosts are very informative about the fermentation process and knowledgeable about the qualities of the different wines. If you like wine and are in Split, devote an evening to wine tasting through Art of Wine. They do not have many recent TripAdvisor reviews because our host says the actual wineries get all the reviews instead of Art of Wine, but they all work together.

I did the Croatian cooking class with Dino from The Art of Wine while in Split last week. We went to the local fish market, vegetable market, bread, cheese and prosciutto stores to get the ingredients. Then drove to a winery, where we helped prepare (Dino did most of the work) the meal. While the food was cooking, the winery owner took us on a tour of his operations. Of course we enjoyed his wine for the whole day.

We were picked up form our hotel and taken up to a vineyard where we met the winemaker. We shared a bottle of wine and he told us about his winemaking. We then saw where he actually makes the wine and were given a lovely spread of cheese/meats and some more wine. This was the best part of the your because it was a lovely cellar and we got to learn about the wine making and have a chat. We then went to another(!) vineyard and had more food and wine.

It was really good value for money and we did immensely enjoy it. The only negative for me was that because there was only 2 of us, they just kept filling up our glasses and we ended up having A LOT. I really booked the tour to learn about winemaking because it interests me and enjoy a few glasses but I ended up really really drunk which was not enjoyable. I could have skipped the second vineyard. But overall it was a good tour.

Growing up in Sonoma County, CA and having traveled to most of the major wine regions of the world, my wife and I are not easily impressed. (Okay, okay, call us snobs.) But this was a wine tour and dining experience not to be missed. We were picked up at our hotel in the early evening and met up with two other couples from the UK and Canada. At the first winery the wine maker personally lead is in a tasting through his stainless steel tanks of excellent, though still maturing Zinfandels. And in case you’re like me and thought Zinfandel was a California original, guess again. DNA testing in the past decade shows that the Zinfandel varietal comes from this area of Split. We visited a second wine maker, again tasting in his tiny production facility. (The rain prevented us from visiting the vineyards in either case.) Then we went on to a wonderful farm for a delicious dinner of venison, wild boar and rabbit stew and more excellent wine and conversation. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly. If you’re a food and wine lover, don’t miss this tour.

My husband and I spent time honeymooning in Split and had booked a wine tasting trip with The Art of Wine, based on superb online reviews. It was a private tour, where Tino, CEO, picked us up (on time) from our hotel in Podstrana. He drove us in his BMW to explore a gorgeous vineyard, taste excellent wine and enjoy mouthwatering prosciutto and cheeses in an intimate setting with the winemaker himself! Overall, it was a fantastically memorable afternoon with great company and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to go wine tasting in Croatia!

I want to be concise in this review so I will try to sum up the awesomeness of this vacation for you:
1. Communication. I was traveling to a foreign country and did not speak the language with two other American females. I made all of our plans via email and paid in advance...so you could say I was going out on a limb a bit. The communication with our tour guides was fabulous. Before reaching Croatia, they were immediately available vial email. When in country, they were available via email or text. They went out of their way to communicate with the people we rented accommodations from, to get directions and coordinate times. They are the MOST punctual people I have ever met in my life. When they say they are going to be at a certain place at a certain time...believe them! We felt completely at ease our whole 10 day trip.
2. Tours: We had the pleasure of visiting Krolo Winery, Kliss Fortress, Putalj Winery, the water mill in Zrnovicia, and took part in an Olive Oil tour. The passion the people who own these fine establishments can not be overstated. It was felt in their hospitality and tasted in their food, wine, and olive oil. All of these experiences were second to none.
3. Knowledge: Our drivers took such phenomenal care of us! They not only drove us to where we requested (including a somewhat naïve family finding mission in Bosnia), they provided us with smart talk, unbelievable history lessons, and kindness. Of all the beauty we took in throughout our car rides though Croatia, the lessons, laughs, and kindness will be the most remembered part of our trip.
In closing, words are lacking to describe the unbelievable sights, food, wine, and friendliness consumed on this vacation. What was perceived at the onset as a one time trip to Croatia has now turned into a mission to return. When I do, I will turn to Srdan and Sara (Expat in Croatia) to help with the planning and fun!

Croatia is a destination for number of year in my family, and while in Split we signed up for a wine tour. The day was amazing from start until the end, our hosts were charming and pleasant, with endless stories of Croatian history and its people.
The wine estate we visited was not far from the city Split, but the surrounding was much different and it's hard to imagine this diversity without witnessing, we were surprised with the change from the city to countryside.
We saw the vineyard and everything that was a part of the wine making process, and after we enjoyed plenty of delicious home made foods, paired with most lovely wines, which came to a surprise, because now we know what high quality wine Croatia can offer, and that it could without doubt be as high ranked as Austrian wines.
Time went by too fast on this day, and the money spent on this was the best decision we made.
The wine makers and our hosts left a high impression on all of us which made this experience that much better, and we will return for the second time on another holiday season.
