We went to a couple of beaches in Split and found Bene on our last day - wish we had known earlier. This is a perfect spot for the kids as there’s a playground as well. The first time our Uber driver dropped us off at the other end so watch out for this - you need to ask to be dropped at the number 12 bus stop which is right by this recreational area and the sea. Not much of a beach per se but was perfect for us cos all we wanted was play fun for the kids, water to swim / splash around in and food. If you’re in Split for a few days with kids I would highly recommend this spot.

A 10 or so min bus ride from outside the Chruch on the Riva (number 12 or 21 bus), drops you at the top of a road. Walk down and you come to a lovely little beach. Plenty of sunbeds (circa 100kuna for the day), but keep walking right along the beach and you get to a really shaded area under the pine trees. Water shallow, still and clear. Use loo at the beach bar not the porto loo. A lovely day and seemingly only locals when we went.

We went to the information desk (fantastic help we got there, located in the center of the Diocletian's Palace) and they recommend this beach. Sadly we only went the last day, we loved it there. It's warmer than the beaches along the Adriatic coast, seems like a natural pool, barely any waves, perfect for families with small children. There is a playground at the back, 2 jumpy structures and an ice cream stand. It also has a restaurant where you can order food and drinks.

Not worth the trip to get there, which can only be accessed via waking or a bus, an uber or taxi can not drive through the forest park. Make sure you also have plenty of cash as there is only one restaurant and shop there and its very over priced. In terms of a comfortable beach stay, this is not the one. Although yes its very pretty, its very rocky/foresty under foot and the loungers are very overpriced. Also the swimming is better at the beach around the corner as its very shallow here, and can only really get in one way as its so rocky and slippery elsewhere. If you want a really quiet day away from everyone and dont mind splashing on a sunbed and also just want to lounge around in the shallows then this beach is quiet pleasant for that, for expect to be ripped off wth prices at the shop

You can catch the No 12 bus by St Fran church which cost 11 Kunas each way, but seem to leave every 30 mins or so and takes about 20-25 minutes. There is no sand on this beach just concrete platforms and lots of big rocks. Need flipflops or shoes to go in the water as lots of pebbles and stones in the water. You can hire sunbeds and there are plenty of areas which have big trees so can sit in the shade if you need to. It is really beautiful, but not suitable if you like sand. There are a couple of bars and a restaurant which serves fairly nice food. There is a bouncy castle, trampoline and a park for children and lots of grassy areas, really gorgeous.

We were staying on Marjan so the number 12 bus took us to Bene in about 10 minutes. Bene is the last stop on the line so you can't go wrong. Buy bus tickets at the Tisak (kiosk) near the bus stop by the square at the end of the Riva. They are cheaper from the kiosk than they are on the bus, and the return tickets are the cheapest of all. Bene beach is a shady swimming spot at the end of the Marjan peninsula. It is used more by locals than by the young groups that tend to visit Split in high season. We were in Split during the first half of August and never saw Bene get busy. It comprises a small bay lined with large rocks and some concrete, sheltered from the sun by tall pine forest. We found it much cleaner than the other beaches. There are little picnic tables a few metres behind the bathing area, and plenty of spaces to lay out towels and snooze in the shade. It is a great place to spend a whole day at the beach. The other beaches were just too hot for us by midday, and they were also very crowded and noisy. Bene has beautiful clear water, and an area of sandy floor under the water, but bathing shoes are advisable for crossing the stony floor getting in and out of the sea. It is quite small, so there are not many things to discover for the adventurous, but it is a safe place for families and we felt very relaxed and happy to spend many, many hours reading and relaxing in the shade. Finally, and I am deliberately putting this at the very end of my review, there is free wifi at Bene, which we thought was amazing!

Bene Beach has always been one of Split's best beaches due to the fact that it is not so 'touristy'. It is a quit beach with clear/clean water. Unlike other beaches, such as, Bacvice which has hordes of people, Bene has not been remodelled with road fill. Bene's charm is that there are trees close to the water (Marijan and Kasjuni beach used to have them). Privacy beats crowds.

The Bene Beach recreational area - with its crescent-shaped coastline, its backdrop of lush vegetation, and its myriad of hiking trails - is undoubtedly quite different in winter than it is in summer, but no less appealing.

The playground remains silent; the tennis court remains empty; the food kiosks remain closed; and, the beach is devoid of swimmers. (Fortunately, the WCs remain open.)

The focus then switches to the senses: a brilliant blue sky; a bright blue sea; a bracing brisk breeze; the rustling of leaves; and an entire palette of earth tones.

The Bene Beach area is one of those places that makes it nearly impossible to capture a multi-dimensional experience in a two-dimensional photograph.

Very convenient access from the main tourist hub, via Bus 12 from St. Francis Church roundabout. Bene Beach is its terminus. Buses run about every hour and 15 minutes throughout the day.

Best to check updated bus schedules on the Internet or on the schedule posted in the bus shelter at the St. Francis roundabout.

We were looking for a less crowded beach with some shade and this beach met the mark! It was a $5 uber trip from downtown Split and well worth it. It has a small restaurant/bar and you can rent loungers there. There is plenty of shade and the water is great with a sandy area in the middle to hang out.

Bene Beach stands in Marjan Park, so to reach it you nedd to take the bus 12 from the city center. The beach is a pebble beach, don't expect sand, eventhough they say there is a sandy part. It is very small, and there is only one restaurant.
