    I would recommend!
Went there alone around 1 p.m. the ticket salesman had his back turned and after multiple attempts and a few minutes turned around and sold me a ticket. I was able to take some pictures inside of the expo and walk around the grounds where most of the exhibition was kept. Sadly it was blistering hot, both inside and outside, so I didn't stay as long as I would have liked. It's about a 10 minute walk from the old center of Split and not very busy.

    Interesting archeological objects
Archaeological Museum Split is located in the surroundings of the old town of the city, in Dalmatian Coast. It is a museum, where you can see some archeological objects from Roman times like vessels, mosaics, objects related with cemeteries or some other. Really, the best part is the terrace, where you can see a lot of them. Also, here you can learn about the Roman history of the city, really interesting.

Not enough value although sculptures are interesting
Museum is a bit of a ways out of the old city of Split, but not too far of a walk. I was a bit disappointed to find out that the museum is basically all outside in a garden, with no signage to explain what your'e looking at beyond small descriptions of dates. It felt like you could've snuck in and not paid for all the employees were present. For what it was, the museum feels overpriced, especially compared to some others in the area.

I had a terrible experience with a phenomenally rude individual. After waking up and walking through town specifically to visit this museum, that I had been looking forward to seeing, I met with disappointment. In a city filled with hordes of foreign travelers, this museum has information displayed in three languages, NOTHING in English (French, German or Spanish either). I patiently awaited the ticket salesman's notice to con firm this obvious fact by asking him 'no English'? He affirmed my observation and suggested my paying extra for a book. As I stood trying to determine a course of action, he decided for me by raising his voice and encouraging me to depart. I stumbled outside confused, where he shortly followed me to make CERTAIN I exited the grounds instead of admiring their outside artifacts. I might have chosen to stay and look at their collection without the English explanations, but his unwelcoming attitude ensured that didn't happen. I now understand why all of the international tourists in Split stay crammed into the tight historic quarter .. The rest of the city is for locals only!

The museum advertises itself as the oldest in Croatia, with exhibits from prehistory to the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, it turned out to be extremely small, the most interesting being the things from the nearby ancient Roman city displayed under the sheds outside. The guy at the ticket office was sleeping like a corpse and we couldn't buy tickets, we couldn't even wake him up...

Found this to be very disappointing. Indoors was one room displaying a temporary exhibition of Roman glass objects, which was fine.
However, the main part of the collection is Roman stonework, mainly from memorials and graves. It is housed outside, but under cover, with very poor captioning. Altogether the displays were very fragmented and disjointed.
I would have expected an "archaeological museum" to cover a wider range of history and be more informative.
All in all very poor and not worth the uphill walk from the old town. Unless you are especially interested in Roman memorial stones, avoid.

Waste of money and time:
The inside took us 5 minutes to see. All artifacts were replicates, not even originals...
The interesting part is the outside garden, which were quite beautiful. However, stone pieces were gathered and piled without further consideration or comments. Some filed with garbage and cigarette carcasses inside and all around.
Finally, the staff is not even a bit friendly, watching youtube video and selling well overpriced tickets to pigeons/tourists with bored faces as if they were dying inside.

Worst museum I've seen... What a shame...

"Ticket" was the only word in English. As a Spanish speaker I would expect English, French or German...none of them. It seems an interesting and well layout museum, Alberto small, so I spent 20 minutes there

The Archaeological Museum Split is a well set out museum. The displays feature both Croatian and English language descriptions of the exhibits in a more or less chronological order. One of the highlights inside the museum is the collection of Roman Empire coins. Outside, the sarcophagi and stela are beautiful. Mostly garnered from Salonae (Solin), they are well worth the time to study closely. I was amazed to see that there were only a dozen or so people at the museum on the day. This was my second visit to this museum. The first was in 1972 on a cold winters day, and there was no one visiting then. I don't think this museum can be anything like the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities but, with a few more statues of emperors and perhaps roman weaponry, it could get a new lease of life. Maybe I'm mistaken but I remember this museum having weaponry and more exhibits. There was a section closed off: still its worth a few hours and it is a nice walk to the museum.

Tried to visit it during opening hours but we could not get in because none was there (the sign was there but the door was locked). Maybe call before you want to go.

The Archeological Museum Split is a very interesting museum for anciant Roman and Greek art lovers. The ticket is very cheap, only 3 EUR, and what I especially like: you can take pictures ! The garden of the museum is very beautiful, full of Ancient Roman statues, Egyptian sphinx, mozaics, amphoras.... and even inside you can see all kinds of Roman and Greek jewelry, coins, scuptures, vases, swords, tools .... The biggest problem of the Croatian museums is that only relatives, siblings and friends of the local politicians work there, and most of them are absolutely not interested in their job, only in getting a good salary. For example, my friend from Vienna wanted to make a photo project in the museum, and the staff didn't respond to his mail for more 7 days.
