A guided live-streamed tour
Oct 2021
I did a guided live-streamed walking tour with Olga from Heygo. In the second part of her tour, she started at the Monument to Catherine the Great. When we arrived at the Opera House, she informed us that the two statues on either side of the front entrance are called Tragedy and Comedy. One entrance is called the English Entrance as it faced the English Club. This is the first opera house built in Ukraine and its facade is decorated in the Italian baroque style. It is a very beautiful building and Olga gave us many lovely postcard shots of this theatre. We also walked to the old town and saw more lovely buildings and the spacious pedestrian streets. I learned a lot about Odessa through virtual walking tours with Olga.

Impressive

Only saw it from the outside - an impressive building with beautiful architecture. Plenty of touristy things around if you are not an opera fan. I am not either but the experience is probably more than memorable.

Great "Behind the Scenes" Tour!
Sep 2021
Took the "Behind the Scenes" tour of the Opera House - Spectacular! Tour was in Russian, so that is limiting, but my wife translated the basics. Tons of information about history and construction and modifications. You view the major public spaces, then go backstage and below stage to see how all the magic is pulled off! You get to see the rooms where they store all the props from the Operas. costumes, and then go down below to see the mechanicals. There is a hydraulic system that lift's lowers sections of the stage. Also a trapdoor for those disappearing acts. Orchestra pit, even get to see air conditioning system - each SEAT has an A/C vent! Very interesting tour. Amazing technology for when it was built.

Definitely worth getting tickets
Sep 2021 • Solo
The Opera House is beautiful and you can’t miss it wondering around the area. If you do want to see inside it is definitely worth a ticket. Depending on the seats you pick the prices are excellent and each night has a different show and genre including ballet and opera. This allows you to explore inside easily enough. Tickets can be bought on the website which has an English option. When emailed to you apparently it says you must print them, but I didn’t and just used my phone which was no issue. A note that the bar doesn’t accept cards and is, bizarrely, cash only. The ballet I watched was good, the orchestra and prima ballerina were great, the ready of the ensemble less so but it was ok and I’m glad I went.

magnificent

The theater is a real masterpiece of architecture that looks stunning both outside and inside. It is set in a very atmospheric area. Color-changing fountain, picturesque square, and alleys around make it an ideal place for walking and enjoying its beauty from different angles. It is definitely worth visiting! The ballets "Swan lake", "Carmen", "Nutcracker" and "Giselle" are just awesome and the inner decor of the theater will make memories that will stay for years.

One of the finest buildings ever built in the history of mankind. It is stunning any time of the day and a jewel located in the heart of Odessa. Having never been inside, I still have some more to see. From the outside, it is hard to imagine designing the building better. It is perfect.

Beautiful building
Aug 2020 • Couples
My husband and I attended an organ concert at the Odessa Opera House. We were able to walk around and experience the awe and beauty of 100+ year old building, which made the experience worth it. We took a tour earlier that day and our tour guide said they have invested around $7M dollars in renovations and you can tell. They have done a great job with the maintenance of this historic structure.
However, as far as the concert itself, my husband and I stayed for about 40 minutes and then left due to the fact that we found it boring. It was just one lady playing an organ. There was also no air conditioning during the event so it made it very hot inside the building and made it uncomfortable to sit for a long period of time. I’m sure if it would’ve been a more entertaining performance and there would’ve been AC, it would’ve been a more pleasant experience.

Beautiful baroque architecture
Sep 2019 • Solo
Beautiful architecture, historic building and central location make it one of the most visited sights in Odessa. Always new repertoire and the sea view insured the number one Odessa historic attraction.
