The private one on one class given by Estelle is great. She made it easy to learn and understand even if my knowledge in Spanish is very limited. She was also very caring and patient. And Danielo was also very nice and professional. Well worth the experience. Thank you!

I took a weaving workshop for about 10 days. I first used Uber (which is inexpensive) to get there, but ended up commuting by the local buses every day. It is actually very easy to take one, and fun to be a part of daily life with local people. The Museo sits in a very tranquil setting, looking down the village of Aguas Calientes, which is known for their textiles, one of the best in Guatemala. It is hard to resist the temptation when you see so many products of the excellent quality at the Museo. I can not emphasize enough how much I appreciate the people at the Museo. They were super kind and accommodating. My husband sometimes (who has no business with weaving nor textiles, etc.) tagged along with me just to enjoy the atmosphere and the company of people there. We will return there the next spring.

This gem was worth the trip out of Antigua. We opted for Uber rather than figure out a chicken bus for this venture. The museum features regional Mayan clothing, and the excellent English-speaking guide explained the significance of the weavings.

My group of 5 wanted something new to do in Antigua. This museum, about 30 minutes outside Antigua by Uber, is rustic but authentic with amazing collection of Guatemalan textiles and informative guide Donelo who speaks English and Spanish. After the brief tour we were ready for our approximately 3 hour lesson reserved a week in advance. $60 was well spent for all supplies and individual instruction. And you can take the back strap loom home with your unfinished project. We each had our instructors finish a few extra rows to secure the textile, may finish them, hang as is, or bring them back on another trip.

This little gem of a museum is outside of Antigua and away from the usual tourist rush. The guide is knowledgeable, excellent English speaker and delights in telling you the stories of Mayan culture as revealed in their weaving. weaving is a sacred element for the Mayans and you can see several weavers practicing their skills. Entrance fee is very reasonable and the setting is calm and beautiful.
