Take some money with you!

This was one of the highlights of the trip for our shopping day. The options were overwhelming because the jewelry was so beautiful. I thought the prices were great too! The sales people were not pushy either.

You are able to see employees working on jade
At the end is a quality jewelry showroom with certified jade from Guatemala

This is one of the larger stores with a wide selection of jade. They are willing to make what you want if you have something specific in mind. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

Buy From The Artisans Who Make It! Beautiful Goods, Patient Staff
Feb 2018 • Couples
"Why not buy from the people who make their pieces?" - an excellent suggestion that guided our choice to visit this "jade factory" with museum and shop in Antigua - a good choice, to be sure! After seeing the "factory" process -nworkman crafting beautiful pieces from rough, unfinished chunks of jade, we enjoyed viewing the interesting assemblage of Mayan art and jewelry in the small museum, and spent significant time (on two visits) with friendly, completely patient and accommodating shop staff, before selecting several pieces of jewelry as gifts for those back home. Enjoy!

Lovely little shop with great staff who knows alot about jade.
Aug 2016 • Friends
We were part of a walking tour of Antigua and our guide stopped here. The tour company and the shop must have a working relationship. Patricia met us at the door and spoke very good English. She gave us a tour, explained the history of jade in Guatemala, we saw craftsman working on Jade pieces right in the back workroom. She answered all of our questions. The tour ended in the showroom. We were all offered non alcoholic drinks and wandered around looking at all the jade pieces for sale. The staff was helpful, not pushy, answered questions and took out pieces we wanted to look at closer. I ended up buying a pair of blue jade earrings. There is lavender jade which is pretty rare and most lavender jade has a blue ribbon running through it. Many of us on our tour bought some jade pieces. They take all major credit cards, you get a certificate of authenticity of your piece(s). And we were all delighted in the lovely palm fran woven basket and woven cloth bags our pieces were wrapped in. Definitely check it out. The prices of the jewelry are not cheap but when you learn about Guatemalan jade (which is not the bright green Asian jade) and see the pieces you will most definitely fall in love with something and buy it.

Lilac or Lavender Jade - Who Knew?
Dec 2015 • Solo
Our Caravan tour guide wore absolutely exquisite pieces of jewelry every day, and we begged her to reveal her "source" when we were in Antigua. She said this place has fair, reasonable prices, and is helpful but will not give you the hard sell or push you into buying. She was right, and I was not disappointed. The help I received from a very kind and patient woman was exemplary, and her knowledge about various types of jade (as well as other stones) and their settings was impressive. I felt like I came away from this shopping experience with a geological history lesson without knowing it. I had no idea there were so many types of jade in Guatemala, and that the lavender jade was so rare. Once my sales person understood my budget and interests, she steered me to what I could afford and even came up with several ways for me to consider acquiring more than one piece within my budget. Kudos to the owners and staff of this establishment who treat all of their guests with respect. Access is via cobble stoned streets.

Very helpful
Jan 2016 • Couples
Just off the main square this shop is full of the most beautiful jade. Service is not pushy but helpful. If one finds something one likes but not the right colour, every effort will be made to change. This was the case for me and it only took 20 minutes which I spent drinking a coffee in the courtyard.

A lot of very nice stuff
Dec 2015 • Couples
We originally found this place during a guided walking tour that we took (the guide was probably friendly with the store people, no doubt). We were handed off for a few minutes to one of the employees, who gave us a little tour of place, from a brief discussion of the various types of jade, to the room where the jewelry is crafted, to their little "museum", and around the showroom. We saw some cool stuff, but figured we'd come back later in our week in Antigua. We did in fact return, and walked out with one of the Tikal masks (like the one in one of the visitor photo on this page) and a leather and jade bracelet with a design from the Mayan calendar on it (for me!). We dealt with the same guy who gave us the original tour, and he was very nice, professional, and not pushy in the least. It was a pleasant experience, and now we have some cool jade stuff!

Found a beautiful Guatemala jade quetzal
May 2015 • Couples
When we visited the Chelemha reserve in Verapaz we had the good fortune of seeing a quetzal. We decided that a good souvenir of our Guatemala trip would be a quetzal in Guatemalan jade. We looked in several jade stores in Antigua before finding in Jades Imperio Maya a beautiful green jade quetzal carving. Rose Mary went out of her way to provide a crude jade base which brings out the colour and quality of the quetzal carving. Unfortunately the base was confiscated at the security control in Guatemala Airport. When we were back home in Cuernavaca I called asking about replacing the base we had lost. Hilda soon found out that the craftsman who did the original base remembered exactly what we had wanted. He produced a replicate and Hilda sent it to us in Cuernavaca. An all-round excellent experience giving us the perfect souvenir of our trip. We highly recommend Jades Imperio Maya for its excellent service and the broad selection of jade jewellery and artistic objects.

I never knew
Apr 2015 • Family
I had no idea jade came in so many colours. We were able to see raw jade, jade being cut and shaped and jade being fit into settings then walk over to a small area where they had showcases with explanations and the shop. I chose lavender jade, although much more rare, it is not worth as much as white or green jade. It is beautiful and I thought the prices fair. Very professional and I would go back...even if my husband would rather give it a miss!
