    Nice day
    Came up on Easter Sunday alone and felt safe. Plenty of people around and security. I took a Tuk Tuk up and walked back down . Vendors have bottled /canned drinks and snacks if needed. I was there on a clear day and view was amazing.

    Cerro de Santa Cruz has stoning views for pictures. Pretty easy access.
    This is a great place to take pictures of Antigua Guatemala town with the Volcan de Agua as a background. You can also see the Volcán de Fuego to your right. You can watch and if you time it right, you can get your picture with the smoke coming out of the volcano when it erupts. The access is relatively easy. I took a Tuk Tuk from The Arc of Catalina for around $10-13. Then a little dirt walk and to the cemented path area directly to the observatory area. This place has been recently renovated and it is really nice now. It also has free restrooms. Be aware that there is a dog welcome group…they are very friendly specially “Manchas” … I wish I could have taken him back to the States…they are all up for adoption according to the security guard there.

    Amazing View of the City of Antigua
    Beautiful park with incredible views of this magical city. And it's free. Bit of a walk but it's well worth it. Heck just take a tuk tuk after your visit to return to your hotel if need be.

    Amazing View
    Amazing view of the city and Vulcan de Agua. Also provides a nice view of Acatenango and Fuego. Be prepared for a uphill walk with steps and some flat walkways, it can be tiring for many. Tuk Turks can’t make it up the hill. Make time for the Santiago Domingo monument at the very top. Area has been recently renovated

    Cerró de la Cruz tour!!
    Had a blast on an ATV tour with Simoon Tours. First stop Cerro de La Cruz (Hill of the Cross). Gorgeous views of the city! Fernando, our guide, gave us a lovely history of the area & volcanoes. So happy we did this tour that included a coffee plantation and chocolate tour. Well worth the $$

Superb views of Antigua and its Volcán de Agua!

On a hillside, on the far North of Antigua, a stone cross and the most superb views of Antigua and its outstanding historic center, as well of the iconic "Volcán de Agua". This is "Cerro de la Cruz" (Hill of the Cross, in English), a popular attraction among locals and visitors. At the very end of 1ª Avenida Norte, you will find the "Ruta para el Cerro de la Cruz". Hiking the hill can be quite tiring and challenging for all those not very well fit. Due to security reasons, single hiking visits to "Cerro de la Cruz" are not recommended at all times. A local guide and a car would be my suggestion at any visit. And a last remark, do visit "Cerro de la Cruz" only after touring Antigua. You'll be able to recognize sites and buildings you have just visited. Enjoy!

nice view, not a particularly nice place

There are several things that vloggers on YouTube don't talk about when it comes to this place. 1. the approach to the trail is down a narrow street with no sidewalk where you'll have to dodge both traffic and other tourists heading to and from the mountain. 2. The hike to the top can be strenuous for those who do not exercice on regular basis. Its not a long hike but I have seen middle aged ladies all along the path taking breaks and looking winded. 3. When you get to the top its a zoo, a human zoo. Tourists on top of tourists posing and looking for the best place to snap their picture. 4. there is not nearly enough seating on top and the "park" if you can call it that is mostly dirt, though some attempt at landscaping seems to be taking shape, but as of April 2021 , dirt. 5. Parking lot halfway to the very top is loud and a source of even more tourists. on the positive side, the view is fairly spectacular and if you venture all the way to th etop of the hill, which almost noone does, there is a statue of the patron saint of the city.

We decided to walk from downtown instead of taking a Tuk Tuk. Despite some of the negative reviews, I would recommend the walk to anyone who is able to do it.
To get to the beginning of the hike you must walk along a relatively busy street, some areas have a nice sidewalk, others not so much.
When you get to the top of the hill at the cul de sac, the road splits to the right for vehicles and tuk tuks. The foot path is to your left. The ascent is rather abrupt for the first few feet, but levels out and meanders through a tree lined area. I would personally rate this as easy, but for those with any physical challenges, it may be challenging.
We didn't see anything remotely dangerous on the path, but I can see how that could be a concern.

Good local hike

We did this hike in the morning after breakfast. It was mostly uphill but easy due to the steps carved into the hill along the path. From the top there is a view of the whole city below and of course the volcano. Great for picture taking.

We were a bit disappointed that construction is going on all around the cross but you can still take in the views and walk further up to the Spanish monument. Really nice hike which will get a sweat on , even during the winter months. It will be interesting to see how it all looks when the building of the park is finished.

Visit if you have done everything else possible (including walking randomly in the city enjoying local street fare).

(Dec 2022) There's construction going on at the moment, likely for months, hence it is hard to see a proper view of the city. Even if you did, it is unclear if it is worth a hike up on a hot day. There is so much you could do in the city that is far more worth it (even if you randomly walk around trying local street fare!). If you keep going up a bit more, you get to the statue of an old Spanish general. Lots of locals sitting around, and enjoying fruit and ice cream.

They now close this public natural area between 6pm and 6am. Staff was extremely rude, and rounded us up to leave with whistles

They recently revamped the whole area with new decorations like plants, benches and lights. All very beautiful, if it wasn't for the fact that they now close this public nature area between 6pm and 6am.

We arrived right when they closed, and the security staff wouldn't even let us take 1 picture. "You can come back tomorrow at 6am they said".

When asking why they placed those beautiful lights if no one is allowed to be there while it's dark, their reply was "for security". Security for who? The stray dogs who live there?

On top of that they were using their whistles to round everyone up to leave as if we're dogs, or in some sort of WW2 camp... Extremely rude service and explanations that don't make sense.

A great view of Antigua!

Just past the Candelaria neighborhood, up the 1st Avenida Nte, on the left you take winding stairs up to the Cerra de Cruz. It is busy on weekends, but there are always many people enjoying the view of Antigua with Agua Volcano looming behind. There are venders, of course, and, like me, runners using the 300+ stairs for exercise. Take a moments and walk further up and enjoy the grand equestrian statue!

Nice viewpoint worth a trip

Went there to see the city from above. It is a nice viewpoint. Bring snacks and chill for a an hour or so. Go the main road, not on the side through the steep hills in a small town outside the city, it´s a little dodgy, confirmed by my Guatemalan company.
