We did the Acatenango overnight with OX and couldn't fault it on anything. From the great gear supplied, to the food prepared by the guides and the information provided by our lead guide Gareth, it was faultless from start to finish. Although it was a slightly larger group than normal, Gareth and his team were extremely conscientious of the whole group, with guides doing group counts as we passed them every 20-30 minutes to make sure we were all together, and setting the perfect pace to allow everyone to enjoy the hike and get to base camp comfortably and efficiently. The fuego trip is 100% worth doing if you have the energy by base camp; the ridge can be a bit daunting if you aren't good with heights but again they were careful of the whole group with Gareth repeatedly asking if everyone was ok or if we needed any gloves, hats etc as he had brought spares. He also had lots of interesting stories to share throughout the hike and I noticed he made a real effort to talk to everyone individually at different points along the way. The porters were extremely friendly and the dinner and hot wine they had waiting after fuego was amazing! I'd definitely recommend OX to anyone thinking about doing Acatenango and Fuego.

First of all, this trip with OX was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever accomplished. Very physically demanding but extremely worth it. Our OX guide, Miguel, was one of the kindest people I’ve met on my trip through Latin America. He pushed me when I thought I couldn’t keep going. I had a pretty bad headache due to elevation so he made me ginger tea, gave me something to eat, medication, etc. Love this company and would recommend to anyone! Thank you so much OX Expeditions!

WOW! What an amazing experience. From the pre-trip meeting to the sunrise view on the summit of Acatenango, I cannot rave enough about this trip. Romeo was a great guide and motivator. Along with his co-guide Rolando, they made sure that everyone in the group was well fed and accounted for along the trail. Bilingual, which was great, and extremely well equipped for the trail. Anything that I had not brought with me was provided to me by OX, including warm clothing, headlamps, and pants. The food provided by the company was so tasty (great sandwiches, pasta, and bagels for the morning), and I loved that Romeo even brought some freshly homemade guacamole for morning avocado toast. I am not sure what other tour groups base camp's views are like, but from where we were, we got a great view of the eruptions of Volcano Fuego. You really pay for what you get with OX, and I will definitely be joining the company for a Pacaya hike in the future. Side note: The double whammy hike is a challenge, but well worth it for anyone up for some close up views of the volcano.

Ox Expeditions caters to English speakers, particularly Americans and charges double and triple the prices other companies do for exactly the same service. Moreover, this is a NOT a locally owned company - the owner is a douchy guy from either the US or Australia who, upon us returning from the trek, behaved as if he owned our guide, saying that we should just say the word and our guide will be in trouble since he's the "big boss." GROSS. Outside of that, after the 4 of us finished the trek and went on to explore different parts of Guatemala, we met at least a dozen people who'd done the climb with different companies and were charged between $50 and $60. This cost included climbing BOTH Acatenango and Fuego, 4 meals, all equipment, tests that were set up under an A-frame (to protect from the rain which is a daily occurance) AND PERSONAL PORTERS per person who carry their things. Ox Expeditions on the other hand charged $90 for climbing Acatenango with an additional $40 for opting to climb Fuego. Porters were $30 EACH WAY, not included in the cost, and our tents were in no way protected from the pouring rain which we had throughout the afternoon, evening and late at night while we were camping. In addition, we were not told anything about either volcano, the surrounding communities or Guatemala during this 2-day trek which I'd have anticipated given the massive premium we paid. To reiterate, DON'T HESITATE TO CLIMB ACATENANGO AND FUEGO, IT'S AMAZING, just look elsewhere for a company to help you get there.
