Carlos and his team are one of a kind and gave us a great tour and experience in Guatemala. We went to Antigua and Panajachel/Lake Atitlan and had a blast. Carlos was amazing with my kids and they immediately fell in love with him as he was so fun and interacting with them. The transportation was comfortable and safe and we even got to stop at a roadside stand to try some street corn. The next day we spent with Domingo, another guide who showed us the small towns along Lake Atitlan and his knowledge and hospitality were top notch. I highly recommend using this service for any tours you might want to go on in Guatemala.

We came to Puerto Quetzal for the day on a cruise ship. We had one of the best days of our trip with Carlos Mijangos.
We saw a couple of the local towns and markets, and Carlos bought us fruit to try that we had never seen before. We saw a town that had been wiped out by a volcano. We also went to Antigua, where I think most of the cruise ship passengers head, but Carlos organized the day, so we avoided the biggest crowds. Another highlight was riding the local chicken bus, and learning how each bus is its own business.
We spent the afternoon at Fredy Gonzalez's coffee farm. We had a great lunch there and learned all about their coffee operation. We picked the coffee, removed the husks, roasted, ground, and drank the coffee. We also learned about how they formed a co-op to process the coffee themselves and get a better price for it.
We felt totally safe our entire time in Guatemala.
I highly recommend Carlos Mijangos.

We had an amazing time with Carlos during our 6 day visit to Guatemala! It was easy to communicate with him about our needs and he went above and beyond.
We used him for all of our transport needs including airport transfers and round trip to Lake Atitlan. Additionally, we did the Antigua Walking Tour one day and the Antigua Village Tour the next. The Antigua Walking Tour was fantastic! It’s such a beautiful city and while you can do it on your own, there is so much we would have missed without Carlos. He has a deep bench of knowledge about the history of the city, plus nice fun nuggets of information too. When we went outside of Antigua to visit four villages, it was also a highlight. So close to Antigua yet very different, with each village wholly different from the next. Both days were fantastic!
Carlos also saved the day when I lost my iPhone on the way to Guatemala. Upon picking us up at the airport, he took us to an iPhone store in Guatemala City and then to a data store before heading to the Lake. One of us was also heading to Paris from Guatemala and needed a COVID test. He set it up for us and we conveniently got the test on the way to airport on the day we departed.
We will absolutely use Carlos again and are looking forward to it. He offers a fantastic service and will definitely make your trip better. Highly recommend!

From initial planning (via email) to picking us up at the airport and taking us to Antigua/Lake Atitilan for a 7 day tour (which he did himself), everything went as planned even with extra requested stops along the way! He speaks perfect English, is professional (but down to earth) and is super knowledgeable about all of Guatemala. He knows all the good spots for food, drinks and sightseeing and made sure that we were well taken care of in each of the places that we went. Travelling with Carlos is highly recommended! He also does tours in all of Central America! Would definitely book with Carlos again!

We had a day tour with Carlos on our recent Panama Canal cruise on the Carnival Miracle. Carlos met us at the dock and we headed our right away in a comfortable mini bus with 10 of us inside. We visited an authentic Guatemalan village, rode a "Chicken Bus" with the local, toured around Antigua including the local market, picked up a local coffee farmer, Fredy" and visited his co-operative plantation where we were able to pick coffee beans and then went back to his family house where his wife and family showed us how the de-husk the beans, then we roasted them over an open fire and finally ground those beans using a stone and wooden tool. After this Fredy's wife and fmaily served us an authentic Guatemalan lunch as well as coffee and local beer. Collectively, we all agreed that this tour was the highlight of all our port tours. Thank you Carlos for a memorable day, thank you Fredy for your hospitality, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Carlos for anyone looking for a caring, professional tour guide in Guatemala. He was there first thing to pick us up (even with all the additional Covid-19 precautions the port was taking) and had us back to the boat in plenty of time for our departure. Thank you Carlos for a memorable day!

Carlos is an absolute GEM of a human and hands down the best tour guide I've ever met. We coordinated all of our travel between the airport, Antigua, and Lake Atitlan with him and all of our Antigua activities. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Guatemala, Mayan culture/influence, and the city of Antigua, while being fluent in English, and so easy going! He seems to know everyone in Antigua and is universally loved. Do not pass up the chance to spend a few days getting to know him - he's one of a kind!

I am so thankful to have been able to work with Carlos in the planning and execution of our travels around Guatemala. This was a very special trip for my family and we had the most amazing time. I tribute a lot of it to the support and services we received from Carlos and his team. I originally contacted Guatemalan Guide because I wanted to visit a city that isn't a tourist hot spot. Carlos arranged not only that specific aspect of the trip but also arranged for all our transportation between cities. Due to the torrential rains, some parts of the highways were washed out during our stay. Carlos, monitored the weather situation and balanced getting us to see the places we wanted while keeping safety a priority.
While I do speak some Spanish, Carlos' English is really great. It was comforting to be able to communicate with him in English when making all the arrangements. It also was nice that my family, who does not speak as much Spanish, was able to understand all that Carlos shared with us. He's a wealth of knowledge about Guatemala and was happy to answer the many questions I had. It was a real pleasure to get to know him!

Our day tour with Carlos was absolutely unforgettable. He took us straight to a comfortable mini bus, where our group of six had plenty of space to relax.
One of the fun highlights was riding the famous "Chicken Bus", a colorful and unique experience that gave us a true taste of local life. We then explored the beautiful city of Antigua, wandering through its charming streets and vibrant local market. After that, we visited Casa Santo Domingo, a fascinating museum that offered rich insights into the region's history and culture.
Next, we had the opportunity to learn about how chocolate is made in Guatemala. After the tour, we tasted some delicious, rich, and flavorful local hot chocolate—a real treat!
To our surprise, right next to the chocolate shop, we got to sample some local wine, which was a delightful and unexpected addition to the tour!
For lunch, we enjoyed an authentic Guatemalan meal prepared by Fredy’s family. The food was fantastic, and the Pepián (a traditional Guatemalan dish) was especially memorable. It was paired with freshly made lemonade—refreshing and delicious.
The day also included a visit to a coffee plantation, where we learned about the coffee-growing process. Afterward, we were welcomed back to Fredy’s family home, where his wife and daughter explained the traditional methods used to process coffee. We got to experience how to de-husk the beans, roast them over an open fire, and grind them using traditional stone and wooden tools. This hands-on experience gave us a deep appreciation for the effort that goes into making the perfect cup of coffee. We ended this part of the tour by enjoying a freshly brewed cup—delicious!
Carlos went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable day. He was incredibly accommodating, ensuring we visited all the places we wanted to see, and his knowledge, professionalism, and passion for his country truly shone through. This was, without a doubt, the best tour we had during our trip.
Thank you, Carlos, for an unforgettable experience and for showing us the heart and soul of Guatemala!

When you have limited your travel and want to experience as much as possible, you can travel with Carlos. Every day means new adventures, meetings with people who, thanks to Carlos' friendly and cordial manner, open all doors. A true pathos for Central America and impressive knowledge of culture, nature and history. He always gives you his honest opinion about politics and the development of society and at the same time respects you if your opinions differ. Without a doubt the best guide I have experienced.

We were with a group of friends touring only 1 day from a cruise ship, but as I said in my review, we were thrilled with the service of Carlos Mijangos ..HIs company is Guatemalan Guide. .VERY knowledgable about all of Guatemala, so I suggest you contact him +502 5575-2200 He will definitely guide you in the right direction. FYI, Antigua rained ash after the volcano, but no major damage to this amazing city & all has been cleaned up.

Hola Rivka! Thank you very much for your message. A nice a private Shore Excursion from Puerto Quetzal to Antigua, for 2 people, is costing $195.00 per person.
Antigua is located at about 1.5 hours from the port. If you decide to use a shared service, the price is $85.00 per person.
Visit the Guatemalan Guide website for further details and contact

My husband and I will have 2-3 hours in Antigua in April and would like to hire a private walking tour guide at the Jude Museum for 1-2 hours. We need some guidance. What is the usual fee per hour? If several others ask to join us, does this change the amount charged? Will the guide accept US dollars? Do we come with a short list of sights in which we are particularly interested? If it is over the lunch period, do we invite the guide to lunch with us? Please add information you found helpful. Thank you.
