Do you want a one-of-a-kind, true Guatemalan experience while supporting local communities, interacting with local Guatemalans and getting off the beaten path? Meet farmers and artisans and work alongside them in their homes, as you create your own souvenir and memories to last a lifetime. No experience necessary - just a sense of adventure.

De la Gente is a non-profit that offers community tourism as a way to create a real cultural experience by encouraging interaction between visitors and local Guatemalans, as well as to supplement income for the farmers and artisans. Our goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of the people who visit us while having an impact on the lives of the people and communities with whom we work on a daily basis.

A wonderful and informative tour!

I picked this tour because it supports a group of small farmers who are part of De La Gente co-op. And I wasn't disappointed. It was a lovely small group of people and we walked up the fairly steep mountain with plenty of stopps to look at all aspects of coffee production. There was a translator there to make sure... More

Just a couple weekends ago a few friends and I ventured out on a De La Gente coffee tour not really knowing what to expect since the locals we knew had never heard of the co-op or any other coffee farm tours other than Filadelfia (which we heard did not show much and is really to bring you into the... DE LA GENTE is a small coffee grower coop. You make arrangements to meet a farmer and an interpreter in a village of San Miguel Escobar (10 min ride via TucTuk that cost 40Q for two people. From there we went to the farmers house for lunch (optional) and thereafter we hiked up to his own coffee plantation. We were... More

I was so lucky to spend a morning with my cousin in San Miguel Escobar to make pepian with Thelma. We met our translator, the warm and funny Arnold, at the town plaza right before Thelma came along and invited her into her lovely home. This experience was one of my favourites at my first trip to Guatemala. Not only... More

Visited a beutifully located small coffee plantation. The farmer, a very hardworking and friendly lady, showed us around and told us about the whole process from plant to a cup of coffee. We also got to participate in all the steps. The tour ended with drinking coffee and having homemade lunch at the farmer's place. The group was small, only... More

Thanks to an informative, meaningful and personalized visit to one of the coffee farms in the DLG co-op we now have a new respect for the love and hard work that goes into a beverage that we took for granted. Well organized tour and great interaction with the farmer, his co-workers and family. The hike up to farm offered great... More

If you ever get the chance to take one of these tours, you should. It is amazing how much pride the people in the town take on their work. The coffee farmers/producers, the local artisans, the people cooking the meals, everyone in the town had so much pride in whatever it was they were doing. And the people were so... More

If you are debating a coffee tour, I highly recommend this one as opposed to a bigger more corporate one. This tour, which you can get an English translator for as part of the tour, allows you to meet local small farmers, to see their home, where and how they live with their family and to learn the very long,... This is a truely unqiue experience not only for the informative insights into the coffee making process but also to hear first hand from the farmer the benefits of being part of the co-operation has brought to him and his family. If you want to meet and speak with local Guatemalans and get a feel for their lives this presents... More

I am a coffee addict but never knew the extent to which a cup of coffee came about. This tour is led by the very local people who harvest the coffee. They take you in their farms and home to show you step by step. The whole experience was wonderful and fun.
