Museum is the place featured on the back of one of the country's currency notes 100QED.

A pleasant site - not too much to see but worth a visit if this sort of art is of interest

I was taken by surprise by the serenity of this museum. The galleries are laid out with exceptional care . One can see the intense style of colonial Hispanic artist and feel the heavy effect of the picture upon the viewer. Included in the museum is a life size mock-up of the church school classrooms that were also housed here. This is a very enlightening view into Colonial Antigua

This Art museum was on multiple "must see" lists and maps for Antigua, however once there it is sorely lacking. You paid triple the price as a tourist to that of a local and the cost isn't worth it, especially compared to all of the other museums and ruins within walking distance.
It had some beautiful art work and wood carvings, though it was nearly impossible to know the history of any of it unless you read spanish. (Hard to complain about the language barrier when we chose to go to a foreign country with a foreign language)
This museum wouldn't jump to mind if I was recommending places for others to visit.

At the historic center of Antigua, not far from the "Parque Central " and almost in front of the ruins of the old "Catedral de Santiago", you will find a beautiful baroque building. It housed, from 1675 to 1773, the third oldest university of the Americas, the "Universidad de San Carlos de Borromeo". After the earthquakes of 1773, everything moved to the new capital - "La Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción" (todays "Ciudad de Guatemala") and the building had different uses along the centuries. Finally, from 1936 onwards, it houses the "Museo de Arte Colonial". A noble use for such an important and historic construction. Visit the museum, with its interesting collections of paintings, sculptures and furniture from the 16th to the 18th centuries. But, principally, enjoy the colonial building, with its beautiful courtyard, central fountain, perfect arches, impressive columns and exhibitions galleries. A must visit to all those interested in art and architecture! Enjoy!

The lighting was terrible. Poor collection. Really small. Expansive for tourists. We have finished our visit in 10 minutes.

At 70 quetzales, this is the most expensive 'attraction' that we visited in Antigua and, unfortunately, the least worthy. Unless you're desperate for things to do, give it a miss. The presentation is poor, there's a lack of information. It has little going for it.

When you go to Antigua Guatemala, don't miss this museum. From the central courtyard and lovely colonial architecture, to the incredible pieces of religious art, this place is a feast for the eyes and worth the Q50 entrance fee. It is located across the cathedral.

I would have liked to go here, but admission for foreigners was 50 Q. (Admission for Guatemalans is 8Q.) I only had 2 x 20Q and several 100Qs. They didn't have change for my 100 and wouldn't take just 40. I just arrived and went to the ATM for quetzales, all given in 100s. I ate at a pricier restaurant to get the 2 20s. Disappointed that I wasn't able to do any museums :(

Great place to have a look around. From the outside you feel like you are in old Europe. Great spot for some photos.

Mostly the exhibition is about Catholicism, about the remains of sculptures and paintings before and after the earthquake, some of the history that the paintigs reflects is interesting but mostly is really boring, the rooms are so dark and smelly one good aspect is the arquitecture of this place, the gardens, the fountain and...thats it, this place really needs help, so if you have something better to do....do it!!!
