This massive convent was a thriving community of nuns from 1736 until the 1773 earthquake, after which it was abandoned. Now open to the public, tranquil gardens, sparse nuns’ cells and a terrific view from the roof make this a popular attraction.

We were there with a group, the convent itself historically was a high discipline convent (silence and no contact with outside world). I found it to be relatively uninteresting but for the layout and history. It is not in good condition, not any significant art...More

This is a worthwhile site to visit with a really interesting history of the nuns and the work there. The architecture is fascinating and the small amount of art is good quality. This is just down the street from the El Conveto Hotel.

So worth a visit. Wonderful feeling of peace and tranquility. The Nuns ran an Orphanage and a Hospital there before being destroyed by an earthquake in 1773. The 18 cells surrounding a circular space were fascinating.

This old convent has some great places to the photos. The ruins have been preserved well and the architecture is very nice. They have a small area with artwork with some nice pieces. There is a basement area with a coffin and a mannequin of...More

Visited this ruin as part of a walking tour recommended in Lonely Planet. The entrance fee is minimal and the ruin itself is fascinating in terms of the structures found inside and the history of the convent. As some of the ruins there is not...More

It's easy to be overcome with the ruins of Antigua. Las Capuchinas is stunning -- in the manner of most all ruinas in the city. Recommended. But because of the plentiful nature of such attractions, you may decide to eliminate one or more to avoid...More

My guide noted that it was very expensive to become a nun during the Spanish colonial period. One provided a very large sum of money - like a dowry - to the convent. The remnants of the Convento clearly evidence a rich treasury from the...More

We didn't go inside of this place as the cost of visiting these ruins within Antigua was adding up and I did feel this one was a little pricey. Still we admired from the outside such a wonderful old stone convent which like many in...More

I thought it seemed a little pricey but I was glad we went inside. There are sooo many ruins in Antigua but few that you can enter. This one was very nice inside and made for some great photos. We had zero information on the...More

Hi. The beautiful wedding we saw was at San Jose el Viejo. It is a gorgeous spot. I am nearly sure that Porta Hotel Antigua (which is right across the street) has exclusive access to this site. I hope that helps
