I did the overnight at Acatenango and had no idea how rough of a trip it would be. From the onset the hiking is extremely steep and the sand/ash makes it fairly slippery. It gets easier once you get to the cloud and pines forests, but by no means is it an easy hike. The view all the way up... More

Did the 2 day / 1 night tour. It wasn't an easy walk up, but the views and atmosphere on top definitely made up for that!

Fantastic views. Challenging heights. Clouds. Rain. Sunshine. Sunset. Sunrise. Pain. Awe. Eruptions. Volcanic ash surfing. There is a bit of everything when you are hiking Acatenango. My takeaways were (for next time): take it slow (as many breaks as needed); hydrate; bring snacks (!!!); push through but listen to your body. --------- Right off the bat we had a challenging... The hike is really really hard, be really aware, bring warm clothes and cold clothes, also be prepared for the rain. The tropicana hostel has really good prices for the guided hike, the guides are really amazing and kind, if you are not fit at all you can pay them for carrying your stuff. They say is better to go... More

A beautiful hike as well as a rewarding summit. It is possible to do this hike in both 1 or 2 days (overnight) and I strongly recommend doing it in 2. It is, as many people mention here, a strenuous hike. I found it fairly easy, but I had hiked Volcan San Pedro and acclimatised at altitude for over a... More

I climbed Acatenango on a 2 day trip. We got picked up from our hostel at 8am and started walking around 11am. The walk to base camp is around 4 hours from where you can see and hear the neighbouring volcano, Fuego, erupting. We then camped and woke up around 4am to hike 1 hour to the summit of acatenango... Having done lots of hikes across Europe and South America, I wasn't really sure of what to expect before the hike. However, I can definitely say this was the best of my life. Admittedly we were very lucky in that the weather was near perfect, and the volcano erupted maybe 30 times, but I'd definitely recommend anyone to take a... More

One of the hardest things that i have done in all my travels. I reccommend bringing all your waterproofing and warm stuff you had. Volcano in the night was absolutely beautiful and made up for the 90% hardship of climbing a volcano in freezing conditions. Not for the light hearted or unfit. GOOOD LUCK

We have just returned from an overnight hike of Acatenango Volcano and it was amazing! Following reviews on trip advisor we contacted Gilmer Sologui (sologui5630@gmail.com) and he arranged to talk to us in person before we booked the tour so he could thoroughly explain what the hike would be like. The whole experience was very professional and we were sure... More

While we were there this volcano erupted. If you ever live to see a volcano erupt and still be alive to talk about it . I would consider this a accomplishment.
