I was lucky to have Ceasar, aka Checha, as my Spanish teacher. He is incredibly passionate, dedicated and patient! His English is also excellent, making it easier to learn Spanish for those who have never learned Spanish before. The school also offers online courses for those who would like to continue learning the language after their trip!

I can't believe there are no reviews on TA for La Union Spanish School yet!

When I arrived in Antigua, I was recommended this school through word of mouth by so many ex-Pats living here, so thought I'd check it out. There are lots of great schools here to learn Spanish, but I chose this based on so many positive reviews from friends + locals. They are always the most trustworthy reviews.

It's one on one tuition with native speaking Guatemaltecos in a beautiful building with great coffee in the canteen for those early morning classes :)

Classes are conversational (based on your level of knowledge) and field trips are also offered which is a great way to practice the language + also meet new people.

My teacher was Martha + I would HIGHLY recommend her to ANYONE thinking of learning Spanish at La Union.

I feel so lucky that I found La Union school in Antigua! The teachers are excellent and everyone at the school is excited to help support your experience and learning. I stayed 3 weeks and took classes every day. They had cultural activities and events you could participate in. The motto of the school is MI Casa Tu Casa and I felt it everyday. I was nervous about coming and dealing with the logistics. The school staff made everything easy and pleasant. I was able to travel, study and relax. Please check out this school, you’ll be glad you did.

I was extremely disappointed by the quality of instructions at La Union. I Spent a month here studying in a group session which is this schools bread and butter as they specialize in contracts mostly from students in Canada.

I would like to start off with a positive and say the staff and instructors were extremely friendly. They offered a great opportunity to practice your spanish during breaks in class.

However during the class grammar instructions was only conjugation drills and the instructor refused to answer questions regarding the grammar feature stating "we don't have time and must follow the curriculum". Very very few examples of the grammar in context was provided and due to a spanish only policy if you didn't understand the example you were SOL.

Also during class the instructor would ask us to read or to answer questions with our opinion and would constantly be on the computer doing other things. In multiple occasions videos on the speaker would start playing interrupting the students
Despite our group complaining about our instructor, and the school having at least 5 full time instructors on staff. Our instructor was not switched.

Being in a spanish speaking country should provide for ample opportunity to practice your spanish in real world situations. Unfortunately our trip to the market was just shadowing the instructor straight to the "objective" in this case a fruit market and the instructor spoke for us the whole time. Everyone in our group was at minimum a lower intermediate speaker and should have been able to communicate in the market with ease.

The last day of immersion we had child games for 3-4 hours. A great learning tool or day of fun if I was 14... which is their demographic for contracts. Unfortunately as an adult I didn't appreciate the waste of a day. There would have been better immersion activities for intermediate learners.

The school also provides host families for a complete immersion. These host families from our group was well received. Unfortunately my family was not that great for a language stay. Due to spiritual purposes I have dietary restrictions. My host family refused to make an effort to accomodate my diet. would get defensive or upset when I asked what was in the food. I had informed the school weekly about the situation with the school and they failed to care enough to change my host family.
